View Full Version : Range Officer or Loaded?

Hi,

The local gun shop has the Range Officer and the Loaded (PX9109LP) for $699 each. The loaded has the full length guild rod and night sights. Is the RO a better built 1911, or are they both of similar build quality?

Thanks,
Jason

I'd go with the RO if it was my hard earned $699.

IF the RO is TRP/TM quality, it should be a 2.5"@25yard gun, while the Loaded's are 3.5"@25yard guns. The RO's are built in Illinois, while the Loaded could be built in Brazil (IMBEL) or in Illinois.

so choose which one fits your needs.

Brazil builds the loaded's (and most others), if you find one with an nm serial number it's mostly assembled in ill.

Probably what you meant anyway.

They both have the nm prefix.

What's the intended usage?
Range, then the Range Officer
Defense, then the Loaded

I'm looking for a high quality, reliable and accurate 1911 that will be carried very little. It would be for home defense, target shooting, and possibly hunting down the road. It it makes any difference, they are both "NM" prefix serial numbers.

Are they both built to the same standards? Would the RO be a tighter fit, more accurate pistol? Otherwise, would the Loaded be a better value with all the extras?

the RO is supposed to be fit better and should be more accurate.

They both have the nm prefix.

Then they were both mostly assembled here, the loaded's that were all assembled in brazil have just the n as in the one at the top of this thread:

http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=889535

Of course in other models ww is done in brazil, etc.

Does the RO use the same crappy two piece barrel as the loaded.

My RO appears to have a one-piece barrel. No evidence of a weld/braze line on the barrel hood.

Or if you prefer night sights these are more "snagless" and tritium, otherwise the harrison's are great:

Those remind me of the sights my Les Baer Super Tac. Never had a problem carrying them IWB.

Baer uses Champion/Kensight sights.

the problems ive had with bomar-knockoffs that have the spring and hinge pin are really reliability problems due to firing rather than carrying. they take a bigger beating just riding the slide than from getting whacked on stuff in your belt.

i still agree that fixed sights are better for carry though because you just cant afford for them to fail on a carry gun.

i dont own a harrison fixed sight but the NEXT time i shoot the hinge pin out of the adjustable on my TRP ill put one of those in. last time i let SA replace it on their dime but honestly it will probably just keep happening and just because SA will continue to replace it doesnt mean i should keep letting them.

another option is the tripp k-1. its badass and durable. i DO have one of those on my mono. i would get another one of them for the TRP but if you want tritium on the blade you have to send it to tooltech and im not sure the added work and money is worth it to retain adjustability on a gun primarily meant for defense.

just my opinion.

Is it so wrong that Wilson will end up costing me more than the car is worth. Besides its for sale. Company gives me an F150 to drive around. They pay gas, insurance, and all the maintenance. so:tongueout:

I picked up a RO today & first impressions are rock solid. I have a RI Compact, a Sig C3 & now a full sized Springfield. This is my 1st Springfield. I'm not real knowledgeable about 1911s but I can say the RO seems to be very tight & well made. I had a hell of a time getting the barrel bushing off & the slide to frame fit is very tight. I will try & take it to the range tomorrow after I get the boys going. The RI & Sig C3 were & have been 100% right out of the box. I expect a little break in time b/c of everything being so snug. I'm not the best shot but I can hit what I aim at. I will let you guys know how accurate & reliable she is hopefully tomorrow night. I would post pics but I really don't know how. Maybe I will get Pipedreamer to post them.

Well I got to the range today & this is the report with my RO. First I shot 250 rds of assorted ammo with about 30 rds being HP. Being as tight as it was I'm happy to report that there was not one FTE or FTF. By the time I was finished she had smoothed out very nicely & I know it will get even smoother. I used PMC, WWB, & Winchester HPs with no problems. As I said earlier I'm not the best shot but freehand I was shooting 2.5 to 3 in. groups at 10 yds. I set up a rest & improved to 1.5 to. 2.5. I am very happy so far & I know that a good shooter can get even better results. I think SA got it right to give the consumer a choice to put the quality into the gun instead of some of the available options. So far it gets a big thumbs up.
