Agreed. I like the simplicity of their design. Very clean. No need to bling them out. Seems to be against their initial design.

You took my comment as me "being hurt"? That's very considerate, but apparently you don't know me all that well. I'm sure the line in Vegas also favored the Colts (they were giving 5 actually), and I was merely giving Dave, who actually IS a friend of mine, the business about his beloved football team from the state where everything is bigger.

The ACC was 3-24 vs AP ranked teams this year. :whistling: Don't think anyone was terrified of them either.

SEC was 16-38 vs AP ranked teams.

Not really a comparison and I'm not an SEC fan.

Agreed, but I'm not touting the greatness of the ACC. I'm a VT season ticket holder, but I am also smart enough to not sit here and tell you our conference is better than _____ conference. Well, except for the (formerly) BigEast.

I'm not going to say we would be winning SEC titles, but we would be competitive and contend for it. We are better than 75% of the teams in the SEC. Aside from Bama, Florida, and LSU...the SEC is mediocre like any other conference. I give them credit, they do have 3 REALLY good teams at the top.

MD357
12-06-2010, 13:27
Hookie, I like VT (love me some Beamer ball) and I think the first paragraph is logical, the second..... eh not so much. Their mediocre teams would run through the ACC. Year in and year out they win more bowl games and have more ranked teams.

Besides, everyone knows Mountain West is where it's at!!! (isn't that where Boise is going?)

Aside from the Big 3 at the top...who is consistent in the SEC? Auburn? Arkansas? Do it for more than one season. Again, not saying VT would dominate as we have the ACC, but to say we would suck in the SEC is just silly. Look at the dropoff in the top teams in the SEC to the bottom. Whereas the ACC admittedly doesn't have the elite teams of the SEC, but is more balanced top to bottom with good teams. 9 bowl eligble teams is what it is, no matter what you want to say about the ACC. Again, I'm not saying it's the equal of the SEC or Big10...but it is a solid conference.

If Boise was smart, they would have joined the Pac10. At least TCU got smart and joined the other eastcoast I-95 powers in the BigEast. Can't wait to see them play a November or December snow game at Pitt, UConn, Rutgers, etc...
They should have taken Nebraska's Big12 spot. That was just stupid.

2009-2010 Bowl record

SEC 6-4
ACC 3-4

2008-2009
SEC 6-2
ACC 4-6

This include the NC.

Let's see of those 9 how many will win this year. Otherwise, the proof is in the numbers.

My point is that for one to say any mediocre team from the SEC (SC, GA, UT...) would run through the ACC and that Tech would suck outside the ACC is simply not true. We are 3-4 vs the SEC in the last 15 years, all of the losses on the road or bowl games played in SEC stadiums (Bama and GA we lost 4th qtr leads.) I don't see SEC teams lining up to come play at Lane Stadium. Again, I give the SEC the respect it's due, unlike all the Big10 honks that live around here.

Hell...Bama, LSU, and UF would pretty much do well in any conference, but after them...the disparity would be enough that no one (again, nothing against Arkansas and Auburn, but be more consistent) would be nothing more than another solid team in any other conference.
