I finished my XSE Commander project this afternoon. I'm very happy with the way this one turned out considerirng its the first time I've taken on a project of this scale requiring more extensive frame modification and a complete refinish. I resisted my natural urge to be cheap and used only quality parts for this build.
Wilson Bullet Proof grip safety
Wilson Round Butt mainspring housing
Caspian SS barstock extractor. (the factory extactor had a bad casting mark on the hook face that caused FTE's)
Harrison Design Extreme Service medium length trigger
EGW Heavy Duty thumb safety
10-8 rear sight, .140" notch
Novak "Target Ring" tritium front. (only Novak night sight option for the XSE cut)
After everything was fitted and tested, I bit the bullet and invested in a blast cabinet. ($100 from Tractor Supply...an excellent investment, BTW) While aluminum oxide and glass beads are the standard, I had plent of sand on hand and though I'd give it a shot. It left me with a matte finish very similar to Colt's factory matte, but IMO, more attractive as it has a more metallic look to it. Flats were polished up to 400 grit.
