I'm looking for my first 1911, been considering a lot. Felt some, shot some. Still not sure what I want.

I want:
-night sights
-good reliability out of the box
-good reputable manufacturer
-warranty if possible (I know Springfield's is lifetime, Sig is lifetime I believe, but Kimber's isnt?)

I'm not really too picky about "ugly rollmarks", FCS or no FCS, FLGR or GI length, etc.

I'd prefer a light/accessory rail but it's not a necessity.

I just want a gun that's accurate, reliable, with night sights (preferably, but I guess I could do w/o as long as the gun meets the other criteria)

My top consideration right now is the Springfield Loaded. However, I am also looking into the range officer. I just don't like the target sights on the RO.

These are my current considerations:

Springfield Loaded
Springfield RO
Kimber Custom II (not really sure, heard a lot of reliability issues about them, but looking for further insight)
Sig Sauer XO?

-Took a look at the desert eagle 1911, had rust on the barrel from sitting in the shop. Not really a good sign, plus the factory sights aren't my favorite. Pretty much booted it from my consideration.

-SW1911 is not my thing; I just don't want one, unless they are really just over-the-top quality 1911's.

-I picked up a Sig Sauer 1911 XO (the 1 of 250 SS with light rail). It felt great in my hand, I really liked it, except the beavertail was a little too short for me. (commander length??). Other than that, I loved it. I researched a bit about Sig 1911's, but couldn't find much info about reliability. Anyone with further insight? It was priced at $1k. I don't want to spend more than ~800. Looking online I found some regular Sig 1911 XO's for around ~800, so I'll throw it in the consideration pot.

Any help would be appreciated. Bac, where are you..:whistling:

EDIT: I really only want a full length 1911. It's not going to be a carry pistol (well, probably not.), so size isn't a real concern, and I have pretty big hands that make it hard to shoot smaller guns.

You pretty much answered your own question.

You answered your own question as Quack has opined. If I were you I'd get either the Springfield Range Officer, the Kimber Custom II or the Desert Eagle 1911G and send the slide to Novak for them to install night sights.

The Sig Sauer XO isn't worth considering?

Why the RO over the loaded? Is the accuracy TRULY the same as a TRP? Or is it still speculation? Because I have a hard time believing that it's the same as a TRP with an MSRP of $700.

Add the additional add ons.
Checkering $250
FCS $80
Magwell $80
Night sights $100
Armory Kote $200

Add that to the price of the RO, and you have the price of a TRP/TM

I wouldn't consider any Sig made in Exeter or any 1911 that doesn't fit in a 1911 holster, so no. But that doesn't mean they aren't good, I just think if you want a single stack Sig 45ACP get a 220.

I would imagine for 99% of shooters the accuracy is the same. Also, you save $500 by not having "Tactical" and "Operator" on the slide (ok that's a bad attempt at humor). The TRP has several features which add to the price.

So you both think that the RO is more accurate than the loaded? Hmm, interesting. I guess I'll take a hard look at the RO. Thanks for the help guys.

The couple of ROs that I handled feel better than Loadeds.
Fit is more on par to the TRP

The question is, can you shoot well enough to be able to tell the difference between the two?

Could a quality gunsmith not swap them out?

a non-quality gunsmith can swap them out.

True. I sent my DE slide to Novak simply because even with shipping it was less $ and less time than my local [quality] gunsmith.

springfield or sig would be my choice, lots of people are buying the springfield gi and adding the options that they want. i carry a 5" sig 1911 and i love it, factory novak night sights, no issues.

Yes. Your groups will get smaller.

These results from a garden variety, stock-box 1911.

I've shot better than this with my Performance Center .38 Super.

Thanks Hokie. A competition IPSC shooter who is also a Sig, HK, and 1911 pistolsmith gave me some pointers. :)

shoots accurate will feed anything but chambers are tight at about 0.474 match specs. So they wont tolerate lead reloads that have been shaved as they were seated. I had mine reamed out to match my P220 chamber which will chamber anything. Also I had a 2 to 3% failure to fire in 1911 when same round would fire in P220. The passive safety plunger was knicking from firing pin contact.i tried to have that fixed twice by expert Smith. finally had to convert to series 70 to solve. Depends on if it's just a target gun or a carry gun whether or not these facts amount to a hill of beans. IMO but just the facts I experienced fist hand. no conjecture here.:wavey:

I haven't handled a Range Officer yet, but it sounds like its a much better option than the Loaded.
