I just picked this up in a trade today. I know almost nothing about it, but figured it was something different, so I grabbed it.

It's a Lew Horton Springfield Armory Lightweight 1911 called the Night 45. From what I've found, they made both the compact and full size. 500 of the Compact and 300 of the Full Size, all made in 1997. Mine is still NIB. The magazine doesn't even have a mark on it from being inserted.

I can't really find much on the value of them. I'm trying to decide whether to swap the mainspring housing to a flat one like I prefer, and have Karl Sokol at Chestnut Mountain Sports ( install an extended thumb safety, and shoot it. Or, I might just leave it NIB since I already have enough 1911's to keep me shooting for a long time.

If anyone can enlighten me on what I really have here, and a possible value, I'd appreciate it. I'm really a shooter and not a collector, so I'm trying to fight the urge to shoot it as it is.

Here are some pics. I wiped the original factory oil off of it and Remoiled it when I got it home.

I bought my LHN.45 NIB in 1997. Still have it, still shoot it, and out of the dozen 1911's I own... it's still the most accurate offhand pistol I own.

I have that same model. It had been fired, so there was no need for me to do the "Should I or shouldn't I add it to the carry rotation" thing. Have other 1911s with fresh tritium so I don't feel the need to rejuvenate the old ones on it.

Congrats! I've never heard of it, but if it was made by SA, it must be pretty good.

I have a SA Lew Horton Night .45 LW Compact. I contacted both Lew Horton and SA via e-mail, and was told it was made in 1996, in a batch of 500. It is my favorite 1911 pattern pistol. It is amazingly comfortable to shoot for a compact 1911, and is very accurate. No malfunctions so far. I love it. Congrats on your new pistol!
