i've heard nothing but good about the colt xse lightweight commander. if i can ever get over vomiting when i see fcs, i'm gonna get one. msrp is 973 which would put you in your ballpark.

Sti spartan $690 and spend the rest in mags and ammo!

Well, if you are sure that you want to go LWT, then it becomes a matter of to rail or not to rail.

How do you plan to use it?

If the used one is in good shape and you want the rail .....

Personally, I would never use the rail, and it adds some bulk to an otherwise clean carrying gun. So, I would look for a good deal on a non-railed gun.

and you call yourself "handyman"? You might consider "DoItYourself" as a name. I was curious as well, thanks for the direction.

I have a LW champion. Nice thing is that it is reasonably light and compact.

It has a ramped barrel with no barrel bushing and a unique recoil spring/guide rod system. I don't care for either of those things now that I have lived with them for a while.

If I wanted to spend $800 on a LW 1911 that size I would buy a Colt LW Commander.

All the extras on the one might make it worth your while if you want that particular configuration, only you can decide that.

oddly enough-- I have a hardly been used LWT Colt Commander XSE. If you want it, the price is $875 plus shipping, transfer fees and so on.
