I tried to use my DVD drive to load some new software on my old gateway laptop - the light comes on like it is working but the software does not load -

So I try and do it manually - but can't even find the DVD/CD drive on the computer - I click start & select computer -the device is missing - I have not used it in a long time -

So I go to the Device manager and there is a yellow! in front of this drive.

I tried the uninstall - reinstall a couple times - did not work

I tried the uninstall first - then reboot the PC and it comes up as if I had just installed a new device - I then allow it to automatically load the software for this "new" driver

But it still comes back as your driver may not have installed correctly.

DVD still does not work - I still have the yellow !

I figured I would try and reload the driver from my back up disks that I made when the computer was new - there must be 8 or 10 of them (CDs) how in the world would I ever find the correct driver?

Any help?

I'd suspect something is likely wrong w/ the drive.

CD/DVD drives don't have special drivers, they used the Windows built in driver.

Try this fix from microsoft
