Can I build an AR cheaper that I can buy?

Im trying to talk my boss into building an AR with me. He says that it would cost more to do that than just going out and buying one...Is there anywhere that has good deals on lower kits and things like that , that would make actually building our own worth it in the money issue>? thanks for all the help.

By the time you buy the tools to do it right you probably will not save any money.
DPMS can sell rifles cheaper than we can build them and we are a manufacturer.
