I know there aren't many Colt fans over here but I just got my CE back from get the front strap checkered and a 4.5 lb trigger done. Here's a couple of crappy pics.

Nice! I think the newer Combat Elites are some of the better 1911s out there under $1,000. If you don't mind saying, what did the checker job run you?

Although I tend to favor STI these days, there is still something about a nice Colt that I like. Here's mine.

There definitely are a few Colt fans around here. I think my Colt 1991 is one of the finer 1991-style guns around for under thousand bucks. Love it and planning on owning more!

Beautiful guns, both of you. Nickpisp, that is a really sweet checkering job. Where did you get that done and what does such work usually cost around?

Thanks! It was done by the Colt Custom Shop, I think it was $160. I got 20 LPI to match my TRP but it feels a lot different, I really like it.

Kind of wish I hadn't see that checkering. I really want to have that done to mine now....just one more thing to add to "the list." $160 doesn't seem to bad though.

Very nice.

Wish I had all the Combat/Delta Elites, the "Ten/Forty" and others that I used to buy and then trade off, back a number of years ago.

These were all $500-$600. pistols back then!

Looks great.

I wonder who does the checkering for Colt?

If they are farming it out I would like to know who does it! It looks pretty uniform and the tips and lines look sharp and clean.

I'm almost positive they farm it out.

I'm a Colt fan-It seems if you hunt a little getting a Colt 1991 used in excellent shape will cost you not much (50-100 dollars) more than one of the Brazillian or phillipine imports-can't imagine still getting an improt when the Colt is so close in price.
my last 3 Colt's a 1991 and 2 70 series -one in 9mm were picked up for under 700 bucks

The last time I spoke to Brent at Colt he said that he had given my gun to his gunsmith, I assumed they did it in house.

Checkering looks nice, I have an old 60's Colt National Match, and just cant bring myself to mess with it. That's my only non checkered 1911 holdout.

Not everyone is comfortable buying used. I've never had a problem with it, but many people only buy new firearms.

I am not a huge fan of Colt, but your gun is beautiful!!! There is nothing wrong with Colt at all, they make a high quality 1911. I just like some other offerings better.

Nice Combat Elite. I may end up getting a few things done to the exterior of mine like that and a bevel. I hate to cut into the slide but my holsters would appreciate it greatly.

That checkering looks great. Seems like a bargain for that price. You got me wanting to do that to my CE. Did you send the entire gun in to Colt? Also, how long did it take? Thanks.

Getting me thinking here.

Would like to get my first 1911. Really like the feel of the Colt. but a grand is bit high for my first one. 600-700 is doable

Maybe it's just me, but I would be hesitant to buy a used 1911 for my first one. There are a bunch of nice ones new at $600-700 to learn the platform.

The whole gun went it because it was shooting low. I had the checkering done while it was there. It took right at 5 weeks from the time they got it until I had it back. I'm pretty happy with it, I like the way they did it.
