I keep having a windows activation message pop up on my computer. I hit the link in the message, went to the site and had it do its thing.

The messages still keep popping up.

Is this a problem with Firefox?

You better hope not... or you've probably got a virus now after clicking it.

How old is your computer? Windows Activation typically doesn't take you to a website, it just pulls up a Window and you register there.

What information did you give at the link? Do you still have the website URL?

Like IGF wrote, if the installation is over a month old, you shouldn't get the message. I haven't seen this personally (yet), but does this look familiar?

Download Malwarebytes from Cnet.com, update it, and then run it in Safe Mode. SuperAntispyware cleans up a lot of junk that MWB does not as well.

Holy smokes, thats good.

He said it took him to a website however. I've NEVER heard of Microsoft Activation, taking someone to a website... ever.

Important: Your card will not be charged

Well then why on earth do you need the number? Asking for the PIN should be a HUGE red flag...

Na, that site wasn't it. I gave no phone number or credit card infor. It was a simple white window in a blue box. Its title said there has been an unauthorized change made to windows and a link is provided in the text.

I'll try to screen pic it if it happens again. I ran an avast pro antivirus and webroot spyware to see if anything was popped in the system.

All seemed fine.

"Major" hardware changes can cause that. If it's a new system, maybe an update or a piece of hardware went bad or came loose.

"You make a significant hardware change to your computer, such as upgrading the hard disk and memory at the same time. If a major hardware change requires activating Windows again, you will be notified and will have three days to activate your copy of Windows."

Unfortunately suggesting something illegal isn't within the forum rules.
