Hey guys, I got 100 rounds of Brown Bear .223 for Christmas. I usually never run anything that is steel cased or laqured(spelling) through my 6920 but I doubt the store will allow me to bring back ammo. Thoughts on this ammo as i have never shot it. thanks.

I have never shot it through my 6920, I dont think it will cause any damage but some guns will shoot it and some wont. I would go blast it or save it for a rainy day.

Steel cased ammo works fine.

I've just got my DDM4V2 my intent for getting it was for tactical rifle training and classes. I bought 2K of Wolf .223 and so far it has digested 250 rounds flawlessly. I've shots lots of Wolf steel case pistol ammo in my time 25-30K never an issue other than a little dirtier that most. At $4.20 a box of 20, I'll stick with it until I get set up to reload rifle.

Couple of years ago I ran 1000 rounds of Silver Bear in my RRA Tactical Entry, during a 3-Gun class. The rifle worked flawless, with occasional lube on the bolt. I think it'll be fine.

bring a cleaning rod, Sometimes they get stuck in the boar. Won't hurt anything, just get stuck from time to time.

Make sure you inspect every round for -side ways primers ,no primer, primers not seated completely! Russian steel case ammo is dirty, with very bad QC- light /heavy charges! Don't expect good accuracy!

That might be a bit of an exaggeration.

While I don't think Wolf is particularly good in the QC area, Bear and Barnaul tend to be pretty decent ammo.

Lastly, accuracy is not much worse than any other standard run of the mill .223 out there.

I put a full case of Wolf through an RRA carbine upper back in late '04 or early '05, had no problems. It did take a while to clean afterward, but no problems. I wouldn't use it for SHTF, but for plinking/blasting/training, it would seem to be fine.

I've shot Wolf, Wolf Classic, Wolf Military Classic, Silver Bear, Brown Bear, Golden Bear, Sugar Bear, Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and even Yogi Bear. I had exactly 1 problem in all the thousands of rounds, and it was a stuck case from the Wolf ammo that came in the black box, not the Wolf Classic that comes in a camo box.

The spent case got stuck inside the chamber and the extractor wouldn't pull it out. As a matter of fact, the extractor was stuck along with the case and I had to mallet the charging handle to open up the bolt to see what happened. Then I just used a cleaning rod and pushed the case out.

I then slicked up the AR with Rem Oil and ran it wet and never had another problem. I think the case expanded in the chamber and maybe the heat from the firing melted some of the lacquer and fused it like epoxy. The extra lube may have help prevent further lacquer lamination. Who knows.

All my problems with steel cased ammo were with wolf. Oddly enough though, never in. 223.

I have gone through 2K wolf polymer in a few different ARs to include two 500 rounds one day classes and have not had any issues. I also use it in my monthly 3-gun matches. Got another 1K for Christmas.

I thought this was a good deal so I just ordered 1K of XM193 which after some testing and zeroing I will put aside as a small stash. $295 shipped and insured.

Outside of a finely tuned 1911's extractor......... I say if anything won't shoot Wolf then it's not as hard use as it needs to be.
