I've been looking around for a good deal on a soft side compact rifle case for my DDM4V2 with an optic. The total length of the rifle is 33 inches with the stock collapsed so somewhere in the 35-36 range is what I'm looking for.

I want something compact though well padded that can hold 4-6 or more mags, maybe a small cleaning kit and whatever. Also something that isn't overly tacticool, prefering a more rectangular shape as opposed to a rifle outline. Living in an apartment complex I want to be as discreet as possible.

Have any of you guys come across any good deals, with as I have described above? I'm kinda on a budget so want to get the best bang for my buck, excuse the pun.

Which one specifically? :dunno:

I picked up a paintball gun case from a mil-surp store for about $20, and it works perfectly. Has (4) pouches on the side that perfectly fit two 30 round magazines each, plus another pouch that can hold cleaning supplies and ear protection. Perfectly fits my M4 with the stock collapsed. Not sure of the brand, but may be worth poking around. Lots cheaper, with equal design/durability to the more tacticool cases.

I'm leaning toward getting the Midway 43" model. It's on SALE.

Looks like it gets good reviews, I have the shotgun model and it works well for my pistol gripped 870.

Eagle Industries. Very high quality, made in the USA.

As far as soft cases, I have had the same King's Guncase (aka Bagmaster) for my AR for 14 years and it's good as new, just dirty from me hauling it to outdoor dirt ranges. The thing is very nicely padded and sturdy, with strong shoulder straps, and generous magazine pockets (x5). The spine where the bag hinges is reinforced so that the bag does not flop nor does it fold over itself in the middle when you sling it over your shoulder like other soft cases without the spine would do. It also has a half-length zip pouch for documents such as receipts and registrations for those of us who live in states that require such things.

It's nicer than the Uncle Mike's soft rifle case (not padded enough and the nylon was way flimsy in comparison), Wolf soft case (pretty worthless, except as dust cover at home), Kolpin's soft case (no padding, floppy due to no structural support), and it cost way less than anything out of Eagle or Blackhawk. I think I paid $30 for it.

The one I have fits a full-sized 20" AR with fixed A2 stock and a scope on top of the A1 fixed carrying handle. You don't get more spacious than that, but it's not overly large and didn't have extra space where it wasn't needed.

5.11's quality is nowhere what it was when RR owned it.

I won't use their bags, I've seen a few have serious problem.s

I have a few of them. Expensive, but made in USA (not sure if they still are though, heard the company changed hands) and good quality.

I prefer USA made when available, and I hate the 44 inch hard cases for carbine length guns that most brands supply. You could also get about a 30" tool box, line it with foam and transport it with the upper and lower separated.

My M&P came in a 48" hard case! A bit ridiculous. Then again there are no pouches so the mags have to be thrown in there, but still....

Surprised nobody has mentioned the Pelican Storm cases yet.

If I was to go with a hardcase, Pelican. End of story.

I believe King Cases aka Bagmaster make soft cases for any length, including carbine length cases of 30", 35" up to 46" OAL.

Here's the link. I have the 46" Deluxe with the 5 mag pouches. That padded shoulder sling is super comfortable and it's mounted to that reinforced spine solid. I've had other cases where the sling snapped off its mount or tore the fabric within a few months. Like I said, I've had mine for 14 years and it's good as new.

I just bought 2 bags from Sportsman's Guide. They are tactical style, but rectangular in shape, making them a little less conspicuous. They carry the Winchester logo in small letters. They have a larger padded compartment for a full rifle (different lengths are available) and a shorter comparment for a spare upper, etc. There are also 3 separate compartments on the outside for mags, etc. It is very well made and cost less than $40.

I have the 35" version of that and plan on buying another for my new build. The lower cost means I can buy more ammo or other accessories!

Yeah. He did. Otherwise I would have said Pelican and then closed the thread!
