View Full Version : TRS or SACS Milspec?

Just a general question for discussion. If you were spending $1,800ish... would you get something like a TRS, or a Milspec and send it to SACS with say $1,200 in work done to it? What would you choose and why?

Honestly, it would depend on how you'd option the MS. The TRP can give a better bang for the buck.

I'd vote a MS/GI and send it here - http://www.harrisoncustom.com/Services.aspx?cid=1

His prices are very comparable to SA and his work speaks for itself. Not taking anything fro SA, but I should have used John on one of my builds.

ETA - I know someone who's getting this done to his SA - http://www.harrisoncustom.com/Package.aspx?pid=10

He added a few extras that aren't a must, I think the estimate time was much better than expected.

the Mil-Spec...I'm just not a fan of how the TRS looks, mainly because of the way they have the small serrations. I like medium to larger serrations on my 1911 slide.

I would go with a milspec and shipping it out, just because you can set it up exactly like you want. As a matter of fact that is probable my next 1911 project

I was actually looking at this package, but this puts it about $2,300.

Wouldn't have to be a TRS...just something under $2k for comparison sake.

That's the one I'm planning down the road with a few extras.

You're so close, I'd save a little more and buy once, cry once, honestly.

That's what I was thinking. I REALLY like JH's work. It would be a year or so before I could do it regardless.

I'm not. I will have to save for a year or so....so I'd rather not wait another year on top of that. Although, I think George does SACS now so I could get a Custom Carry from him and spread it out for the build time.

He does, I think it's 30 or 50% down to order. That's an SA minimum.

I am definitely interested in the SACS Kool-Aid, but I have to admit...I really like the idea of having a Harrison build for the same price for something different. Don't know of anyone that has a JH gun.

I do like what SA can do, but IMO, the Harrison is a different animal. The SA will always be there, never know if John would stop building.

I'm going to do my damnedest to get one from him, I'll probably sell my Pro to my buddy if I can't find another way to fund it. I'll come out better in the end.

And BTW, I looked at an old email from George, it's a $1000 non refundable deposit for a SA build.

I don't know about that. SACS can do a LOT for $1.2K, and if he supplies the parts, the gun will be exactly what he wants, not a cookie cutter gun from Baer.

I'd go with the Mil-Spec build just because I like they way Springfields feel in my hand better than a Baer.

Here's a G.I. that SACS did for me earlier this year. I'd take it over a Baer any day.

The good thing about SA is you don't even have to supply the parts, they'll get what you want as long as it's a quality part.

I was going to buy the Legacy MW suite and a few parts on one of my builds, but SA wanted to handle it all. Saved me the extra shipping fees.

To be fair, he said for $1200. I spent a bit more than that ! Also, the one Chuck built at the same time as mine sold for $5600 within 42 hours, so I can live with my hunk of sh1t !

I would spend more. I just said $1,200 as an arbitrary number because it's roughly the difference from the Milspec to the TRS.

ive got nothing but love for the SACS but the TRS is a badass gun that runs!

if you like the way the TRS looks then buy one of those off the shelf. 1911 heaven has them without FCS (since everyone hates them so much :whistling:) but if you dont mind waiting a paying a little more then blowing out a milspec would be a little bit cooler and more unique.
