Tactical Medicine - Gunshot and trauma care

9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

This course will introduce and drill the basic skills necessary to manage life-threatening trauma in a tactical environment.

In addition to Basic Life Support ( BLS) skills, the training will emphasize self care and care under fire.

Course topics will include:

How care under fire differs from standard first aid
Priorities of action in a combative environment
The purpose built medical kit vs. field expedient gear
Communication and task delegation
Scene security
Self care
Body substance isolation
Rapid trauma assessment
Treatment priorities
Controlling life-threatening bleeding
Hemostatic agents (Quikclot, Celox, etc.)
Tourniquets: when and how
Airway management
Tension pneumothorax
CPR –When and when not
Triage in a multi-victim situation
When and how to move a patient

Participants will practice all skills “hands-on” with training partners and manikins.

This course will have a live fire range component where students will apply their tacmed skills in a stressful yet safe environment.
Students who do not wish to shoot may still participate in the training scenarios.

All students should wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for moderate outdoor physical activity.
It is highly likely that participants will get blood simulant on clothing and gear.

Do you mean a DVD of the class or exercises, or a general tacmed DVD?

We may put some clips up on the website later. Usually just use the video for debriefing after the exercises.
