Wilson CQB Yearly Review

I figured I'd do a review of my CQB since I did one on my SA Pro, and I did get these around the same time. The rounds counts are close, but I think my CQB is only around 1500. I may stop switching between 1911's this year and just shoot one.

The following changes have been made:

10-8 Trigger
Crimson Laser Grips

Pictures won't be the greatest, so...


I haven't ran this pistol as hard as others since I was considering selling it at one time. I have since decided to get it so things may change.

Barrel:

This had been an area of concern in another pistol, but lucky it's not an issue here. I had been told the wear on my other pistol was normal but I'm not buying it. Seeing how I'm not getting the wear in others, something is a miss. I glad to say I have no concerns with my CQB.

The CQB did have the bevel in the guide rod from the beginning. I'm sure that has helped to some extent.

There is very little wear on the upper lugs:

The breachface shows the same lack of wear:

The frame does have the VIS as well as a slight bevel on the top.

The wear on the frames rails is minimal, which is to be expected with such a low round count.

Feedramp/Barrel view:

The ramp seems to be cut deeper than most of my 1911's. Just an observation...

The extractor shows the same lack of wear. This has been my one source of problems. I have had 3 failures to extract, well one was due to a split case. The tension seems plenty adequate so I'm not sure what the deal is. I happened in the first 300 rounds and hasn't happened since.


The magwell isn't really that beat-up, though it should be

The overall wear of the AT finish has been pretty good, but again, I haven't ran this pistol as much as I should have. My pictures really didn't pick much up. There are some scratches and scuffs from my MTAC, but the lighting drains them out.

The only real problems I've had were the FTE's and a grip bushing coming loose when I switched grips. I'm not sure if blue LT was used at Wilson, but it did remove the bushing instead of just the screw. Not a big deal, just a PITA when you don't have extra bushings around.

This pistol did come with their new ETM mags, and while I haven't had any issues, the springs don't seem like they'll last too long. I've had 47D's where spring life wasn't the greatest so this isn't a huge shocker.

Overall, this pistol has not disappointed me. It is extremely accurate without being overly tight. The slide can be manipulated with ease as well as the barrel bushing. Just goes to prove tight doesn't mean right/better.

I was able to fondle a CQB for the first time this weekend and I was very impressed with the over all fit and feel of everything.

I have never felt a beavertail blended so perfectly.

The shop was selling it at 2400 dollars and I thought that was ridiculous for a used gun. But then again, there are never any Wilson's in my neck of the woods.

Yeah, that is a new price locally. The last CQB I saw used was $1500-$1600. The deals are always when I don't want to/can't buy.

I don't think I would buy one unless it was under 1500. I can build one for around 1200.

I am thinking about using a Wilson kit for my next build. I'm torn between the Wilson kit and building a Remsport frame and slide.

It would be nice having a Wilson beavertail and barrel pre fit, 2 of the most time consuming parts of a build.

Anyway, before I side track this thread any further, congrats on such a fine pistol. The more I see Wilsons, the more I appreciate them.

I hope I'm replying to the correct person. On the review of the SA Pro the link showed dents and bashing. I have a few thousand rounds through my SA Pro and cleaned it yesterday. The link is perfect with none of what your pistol displayed. I'd be really disappointed if SA tried to tell me that's normal. I would be trying to have them fix it. For the cost of a Pro it should be "right".

Yep, that is my Pro. I've talked to them as well as emailing pics but their stance is it is normal wear from taking the pistol apart.





I guess it might be normal if you had the habit of pounding the bushing out with the barrel. Maybe they will change their mind after they see it in person, good luck.
