Adobe, this means you! Why can't you just give me a bloody link to download the new acrobat reader? Why do I HAVE to install it through my browser. It WILL not do it since it's locked down and I am NOT uninstalling all my security due to your LAZY website programming.

You can get it from other sites ...

http://www.filehippo.com/

... they have the latest version available, Adobe Reader 10.0

i don't like it either, that's why i use the offline installer which installs for ffx and chrome (doesn't install for ie8 which requires an activex control)

You can download the standalone installers directly from Adobe's FTP enterprise server.
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/

When the directory listing comes up choose the folder for your operating system (Win, Mac, Unix, Android, etc). Then choose the folder for the version you want (6,7, 8, 9, 10). Then choose the folder for the correct language (you'll likely want 'en_US').

Ditto.

I allow no web installs other than Security Essentials and Windows updates. Anything else I put on a secure FTP server and the great unwashed get it from there.

I'm mean ... I really am.

i don't see that as being mean, i view it as being security conscious.

i've also been a big fan of scp and sftp for a long time.
