View Full Version : 10mm or .357 or something else

Thinking about another 1911, and I already have 5 in .45 so thinking about something else. Looking at building another 1911 in 10mm or maybe try a Coonan .357. Is there anything else out there worth looking at? I am spoiled by the 1911 triggers and would like something similar in feel, but could possibly be swayed by a big smith revolver.

If you like the 9mm check out the EMP. A bunch of guys here love em'.

Interesting hadn't thought about an EMP how do they compare to a sig p238? the sig is quite a bit smaller right?

The Sig is smaller, but there really not comparable. I consider a 238 to be a pocket gun or secondary. The EMP gives you 10 rounds and is a great choice for a guy who wants to carry a 1911. I just picked one up and Im loving it. They are a little tough to find locally, but lots on GB. The EMP in 9mm is a BLAST to shoot. Very light recoil and affordable to practice on a regular basis

How about a Coonan .357 magnum? It's definitely "different".
I'm in for two right now. Just waiting for them to be delivered. :cool:

The Sig is a 380, so its apples and oranges.

The 9mm has twice the power.

The more I look at that coonan the more I like it.. its kinda like a .38 super on steroids..

Owned a Coonan.

They are very cool.

EMP = sexy

P238 = FUGLY!!! :ack:

Yeah, Coonans are very cool. :cool:

I don't classify them as 1911s, because their frame is bigger, but they are very similar in function and style.

They're also very fun to shoot.

I'm not a P238 fan at all.

I'm not a P238 fan at all.
Not even the rainbow colored one? :rofl:I held one at a shop one day and they feel pretty nice, but at twice the price of my LCP, no thanks. For cryin' out loud, it's just a damn .380! Way too pricey IMO.

I did see a DW 10mm at Cabellas today for about $1K. I was quite interested in it and had the counter not been so damn busy I might have bought it. Can anybody compare actually shooting the Coonan vs a 10mm 1911? are they fairly comparable? I guess ballistics should be fairly close, but I have never shot anything in 10mm. I already reload for my old .357 so that could save me a little in reloading supplies.

Cabela's seems to often have 10mm's in the Library if you look for them. They're very customer friendly on bringing them in from other stores nationwide also.

Personally, I have only owned 1911s in .45 and 9mm; however, I would put 38 Super and 10mm at the top of the list (even ahead of 9mm if I didn't already own primarily 45, 9mm, and 22cal pistols).

The classic non-45 1911 is a 38 Super hands down. If you need a lot of firepower, then get a 10mm. Personally, I would love to buy a 38 Super, but my next non45 1911 will likely be a 10mm as sidearm for boar hunting.

I just ordered two 10 mm. New coltdeltas. It could be a while till I get them. Should be fun.

10mm. More energy and larger diameter bullet than the 357.

38 Super or 9x23.

Well I had a 10mm frame and slide on order but just had to cancel the order due to some unexpected car repairs that wiped out my "fun money" :crying:

It's God's way of telling you to order a Coonan. :wow::whistling::supergrin:
Sorry to hear of the troubles, but at least you had the money to take care of it, even if it does mean putting off your 10mm project.
Good luck!

Sarge what is the eta on yours?

Mine were ordered from the factory right before Christmas. The stated wait time was 6-8 weeks, so that would mean a range from the first to third week of February. Considering the wait on my Les Baer from the factory is 14 weeks plus, I think I can handle it. :supergrin:

I'd better clarify - my FIRST one was ordered in that time frame. Right after Christmas, I decided to order the second one. The dealer may ship me the one he ordered for himself at the same time as the first, but this is totally up to him, so I may receive two at the same time, or there may be a break between. Either way, I hope to have range time with a Coonan ASAP.
