Here is my winter project.

This is what it looked like when it was fairly new.

And here is the work in progress. Have to finish up the lower part of the GS. Took it to the range today and I didn't get any hammer bite.

It looks good!! Your gonna need some wood grips and short curved trigger though if your going for that retro look.

That's pretty cool to bob the hammer and the grip safety.
I've done the hammers before but never bobbed the grip safety.
Looks good. It was easier being stainless hey?
Somebody put Quack's trigger on it when you weren't looking. :)

thanks.

I have some SA wood grips that came with the pistol. However, I was never that much into brown wood grips on my 1911's. Also, I'm not much of a keep-it-stock type of guy, so there goes the retro look.

Flat Trigger FTW!!! :tongueout:

Thanks. Was kicking around the idea for a while. And had done the hammer a about 6 months ago. I was going to shorten up the GS, and once I had shorten it, it wasn't digging it. So off it went. And if I didn't like that, I would end up installing a BTGS.

The SS helps because I don't need to get it refinish.

Gonna polish up the matte sides and the rest of the flats to give it more of a beat blasted finish.

File down the frame to be flush against the MSH. And also added a slightly round butt. Have to do some more blending and then slight bevel at the edges. Going to move into the magwell and open it up a little bit.

Why would the slide stop notch be peening? Enlighten me someone... I'm not 'gentle' with my 1911, my slide stop notch is shinny, but not peening (little mushrooms/dents).

Oh, by the way, I tried Googling "Steel Peening" and accidentally put "Steel Peeing". Yeah, you get way different pics for the latter.

No clue what would be causing it. Vickie from SA CS talked to one of her smith and he's a little perplex, so he said to send it back.

I'm a lefty, so my support thumb is on the other side of the pistol, therefore it shouldn't be hitting the slide stop.

The thing is, my Ultra Compact is showing similar signs, but got to that degree. So they're going to take a look at the Mil-Spec first and then I might send them the Ultra later.

So I just got the Mil-Spec back from SA. They barely address the peening on the slide stop notch. Looked like they just deburred the notch. And When it was there, I also had them look at the barrel bushing issue with being too out of specs. So the gun came back with the following fixes:

1) deburred the slide stop notch
2) new stainless barrel bushing
3) new stainless barrel
4) tighten frame and slide
5) new disconnector

Wasn't expecting them to put on or fix the last three items. You can say that I'm more than happy with the fixes. The peening will keep an eye out for. It takes a pretty good amount of pressure to take the slide out of battery. The barrel lugs are nicely fitted. The bushing is tighter, but I was planning on an oversize EGW bushing and hand fit it. The new disco fixed a problem with the slide hanging up, when hand cycling. And the frame/slide tightening was just the icing on the cake. Took the barrel off and just hand cycle the slide on the frame, and it's tight.

Let just say that I'm an SA customer for life!

Test target from SA. 2.5" at 25 yards. Heck yeah!!!

New EGW Monogram Barrel Bushing with Plug set came in with custom OD and ID to match my slide and barrel; semi-bushing wrench tight.

Also smooth out all of the lines on the muzzle end of the slide.
