Looking for a book that covers everything about the AR-15. All the parts, how it all works, tools and procedures needed to work on the thing, etc. Bonus would be a lot of presentation of different build options.

I started with this one: http://www.amazon.com/AR15-Rifle-Shooters-Collectors-Guide/dp/1882391284

In addition the Brownells "How to build an AR-15" videos on thier website was very insightful.

In addition to books also take a look at youtube. There are a ton of build videos there. It's full of a lot of crap but is a good resource.

Green Eyes Black Rifles

It is written by Kyle Lamb, president of Viking Tactics, and former Delta operator. It will lay out configuring your rifle, cleaning it, shooting positions and drills. Excellent book for any AR enthusiast from novice to experienced.

I'd recommend the Sweeney books. Keep in mind they're different volumes, not different editions of the same book, so there is not a whole lot of overlap. If you can't get them all right away, I recommend 1,3,2 as the order or priority. I've also ordered a book on gumsmithing the AR-15, but it hasn't arrived yet, so I can't comment yet on it.

+1 on Patrick Sweeney. He has some good stuff on the 1911 if your into that as well.

Plus 2. Sweeney is da man. At this point I'm all but ready to take anything he writes as a gospel.

As long as it's not about Glocks. He has a clear 1911 bias and doesn't hesitate to let you know it. But, the the 1911 and AR-15 literature, his knowlegdge and advice is stellar.
