How is this powder with these bullets I am a very new reloader and I dont mind hand measuring the powder I got the Hornady single stage press so I can do each step and learn the old fashion way.

I dont want flashy or loud powder I prefer velocity but these will be the first I try to reload so was wandering about this powder.

next i think will be the 180 grain bullets.

Follow the book advice, is the best I can offer. 800X can spike up quickly at near the maximum charge weights. Not knowing how you pistol is set up and using data you see other psot can get you in trouble possibly. People get away with loading to certain levels with their particular setups, but if something goes wrong it their equipment that takes the brunt of the situation.

Good luck! Be safe!

I love 800-X. I use a Redding BR-3 measure and it throws very consistent charges. So consistent that I gave up weighing each charge after I throw them. 10gr. and 165gr Remington GS gave me 1406, 1408, 1410, 1405, 1428 when I chrono the 5 rounds. Temp was single digit, elevation was about 50 ASL, and it was out of a 5 inch barrel Colt. As a note, some of you that have the RCBS measure might want to add a powder baffle to see if that will help in consistency.
