Glock 27. Agency mandates we can only carry Glock, not a bad thing. I would carry a Kahr 9mm or a Beretta 92 Compact Type M if I could.

East German Makarov and / or Polish P64, depending upon the situation. Recently I have gotten an old but little used AMT Backup in 380 for those really hot days when I wear shorts and a tea.
The Mak is as issued, the P64 has been smoothed up and the trigger has been lightened. The AMT is stock.
All are loaded with FMJ ball for max penetration due to their moderate power.

It depends on where I'm going and what I'm wearing
Normally I carry my G-32 or my FNP-40. If I'm just going out for a short time like grocery shopping and I'm wearing sweats I'll carry a pocket gun, Either my Bersa Thunder .380 or my Taurus 617 .357 Mag.

I could have voted "both" but the option wasn't there.
I am seldom without two handguns. Methodology "Two is One - One is None."
The one constant is my 642. It's role is normally a backup gun, with the primary a semi-auto. However, when I'm packing "lite" and it's the "primary", I have a semi-auto mouse gun as a backup (Seacamp .32 or KelTech .32. - will be moving to Ruger .380 soon - but I'm not in a hurry.)
Since the semi-auto's change, and the 642 is the constant - I voted revolver.
Usually a Sig P229, sometimes a P239, both 9mm, both carried in an m-tac.
I'm also looking for a good deal on a Kahr PM9 to drop in a smart carry as a backup and for carrying at work and other places where its not practical to carry a larger pistol.

I have a G26 in the small of my back!!!!:whistling:
Sorry to put my two cents worth in here but that is about the most dangerous carry I can think of and you are fortunate to date....
Firstly remember that in the small of the back you are unable to see what you are doing when reholstering; and remember that all that needs be done with the standard Glock (any model) is for the trigger to be depressed a measly 3 Lbs give or take to make whoopee. Doesn't have to be a finger, it can be a T shirt, shirt tail or whatever. Small of the back is my least favourite carry position for any kind of gun, first because I can't see on reholstering and second because my fat ass makes it a tactically depressing and slow draw. My only consolation is that if I do manage to have an AD at least it is right smack into my brain and over quickly, unless it follows the electrician/plumber divot in which case the round just winds up in the floor.
Think we had someone on here (or was it another board) who did just that only weeks ago and shot himself in the arse.
I will carry my G26 and I love it to bits these days, as well as my G30. (I use the smallest magazines first for max concealment and the larger mags on reserve right on my belt in a covered leather holder...looks like a cellphone). But I will only carry them OWB where I can see them for reholstering. And to be honest, I am now feeling comfy enough to carry one in the tube in that fashion most of the time I am carrying.
I am still wishing that Glock would sit up and pay attention and at least put a grip safety on their guns for non LEO's and those that are carrying concealed precariously.... then I would feel TOTALLY comfy about carrying my Glocks concealed pretty much anywhere. Not that it is failsafe... but at least two simultaneous errors need to take place to make whoopee.
For the record, we shoot IPSC and neither my son nor I have ever had an AD in several thousand rounds and many hours of carrying. But that does not lull us into a false sense of security. Ever vigilant boys (and girls).
One other thing I wish Glock would add as an OPTION for those that want it (I personally am undecided) and that is a MAGAZINE DISCONNECT. I have just heard too many stories of guns being swiped and used to kill their owner.... and as of late a substantial number of stories of magazines being dropped on puspose just before that happens rendering a gun, even with one in the chamber, useless until the mag is reinserted. And since the average BG is a blithering idiot... they would not have a clue that there is a mag disconnect rendering the gun useless even if loaded. I donno... maybe that's just me being an idealist?

Wellllllllllll, right now I'm carrying a S&W 642. Just got my G26, so now to get up to snuff and I'll be swapping my primary carry gun. Also got a Walther P22. I think the wife will end up with it as her primary carry until she gets comfy with the G26 and then I'll probably have to "fight" her for it.

since 2 weeks now,i carry my new G22 in a shoulder-holster....i shot it quite a bit from day one, i'm currently close to 150 rounds(golden sabre), i love it. i dont carry extra mags...it's very comfortable(i'm tall and thin lol) but i'm looking to get another one,G23 for full time carry...would probably be even more comfortable, i really want a waist holster to try ,i feel this location would be better for me, the motion to grab it in fast pace action is more natural to me.

Usually a G30 stoked with 230gr XTPs and a Kel Tec P3AT loaded with 90gr GDHPs. Sometimes I carry my P-11 in place of the G30 and every now and then I carry my S&W 3904. Always two guns, sometimes three, depending on where I am and what I'm doing.
Primary;
Glock 27 with standard mag / Pearce extension -- accompanied by a G22 mag nearby. Thoroughly tested at range with same JHP's...
Backup or Social;
Keltec P-3AT that has been back to their shop once for feed ramp work. Use FMJ not JHP. Just my recommendation. After their great work on the feedramp, I put 50 rounds of FMJ through it without a hiccup. JHP's still don;t work. Scary. It's a fine piece with FMJ's.
"Never take a new, untested gun to a knife fight!".
jbp1,
My Keltek 380 works perfect with anything....but since I bought a Pf 9 I seldom carry the 380..My carry is IWB with any gun with my own made holster...and I can carry a bigger one as well as a tiny one....bootman
Dependent upon weather, dress and threat value assessment I carry in one of the four following configurations:
I carry my Glock Model 23 alone (loaded with Federal HSTs) 70% of the time using a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB holster.
I carry my S&W J-frame 642 alone (loaded with Federal Hydrashoks) 20% of the time using a Wallet Pocket Holster in my back pocket.
I carry my SP101 alone (loaded with .357 JHPs) 5% of the time using a Galco Fletch holster.
I carry both my G23 and SW 642 at the same time - using both the same rounds and carry methods as mentioned above.
Important Note: Due to changes in certain elevated threat values that I had not previously encountered until recently, I may start carrying my FNP-45 USG (loaded with Federal HSTs) and using a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB holster. However, this still shouldn't amount to more than 15% of the time now reserved solely for my G23

i definately feel comfortable with the firepower on tap. i carry it in a MTAC but i am in the mood for something smaller, maybe a 23 for carry or a 27 as a BUG/carry piece then the 35 gets to be a dedicated range gun with a few not so carry friendly extras like a trijicon reddot mounted to the slide, ICE magwell and extended mags.

scot45601,
I have had a couple of G 27s and a couple of G 26s but I sold both of them...If I were still reloading I would like a G 27 but I would get a new barrel and then use lead bullets. I could enjoy shooting it then with some reduced loads for practice. I didn't really sell the last G 26 but traded it for a G 19 and it is a keeper. Glock would be a lot better gun if they would get a barrel for reloaders to use cast lead bullets...bootman

I saw a news article (Jewelry Store in FL?) where a guy defended his shop with a .22 revolver that he kept in his pocket. They didn't state the make and model but if it was kept in his pocket it might'a been that pistol.

Just watched Ayoob's lecture on firepower... interesting. He recommends jacketed hollow point in .45 in cold weather and 9mm jacketed hollow point in warm weather due to the heavy clothing factor... it clogs the hollow point and gives you a hardball round... so bigger is better when it's cold out? There was some comments on the Glaser rounds and other high tech rounds as being 'iffy' at times.
I am still playing around with a bunch....
Walther P99 .40
Springfield XD .40
Glock 30 .45
Glock 26 9mm
HK P7M8 9mm
I have a whack of other pistols to play with but these are what I am currently considering and haven't made up my mind quite yet. Despite my concerns about safety with carrying the Glocks with one in the tube in deep concealment I will carry them OWB with one in the tube (i.e. cocked and unlocked). That may be the way I ultimately go....OWB with the Glocks in 9mm and .45 depending on weather; both for concealment purposes and for effectiveness purposes (i.e. .45 in the cold weather because I can hide it better and because it is a more effective round through heavy clothing. I have both set to take ten rounds and carry a double mag pouch for a total of thirty rounds available). BUT, the jury is still out. I am somewhat concerned that should I have an 'incident' I will forget to remove my finger from the trigger guard while reholstering. I know a couple of well trained, smart, ordinary guys that managed to ND themselves over the years. One made a mess of his foot. The other, somehow, managed to mess up his hand to the extent that it is almost unusable. So I don't care what anyone says... if two highly trained, smart as a cracker, bright guys can do it to themselves... so can I. If you think otherwise you are fooling yourself. That's why I want the safest handgun possible for concealed carry. I would prefer at least one if not two 'active' safeties... such as a grip safety or squeeze cocker plus perhaps a thumb safety. At least one of the two anyway... so when my head is spinning and I try to stuff the gun back into the holster to avoid being shot by the LEO's arriving on scene I don't do a Daffy Duck and shoot myself in the leg or crown jewels. On the other hand, after participating in IPSC/IDPA for the past year or so, I can definitely say that with rushing adrenaline it takes time to make sure that you have a solid grip to deactivate the grip safety and it takes time to flip that thumb safety and remember to do it.... and therefore your circle of fear needs to be 21 feet. Anyone that's taken force on force training will have had the unpleasant experience of being disarmed from within that circle and, trust me, it CAN be done and that's why you need to practice getting your gun out and active as rapidly as possible. You should be practicing at least once or twice a week for fifteen or twenty minutes with an EMPTY gun (no magazine and absolutely empty and proven safe). All it takes to make your gun useless? For a revolver the bad guy needs only grip the cylinder to prevent it turning. For a semi auto all it takes is the slide pushed back a quarter inch to take it out of battery. You may as well be holding a banana.
Anyone carrying for self defense needs to watch Ayoobs "Judicious Use of Lethal Force" video. Laws do vary from state to state but the basis is similar and you really need a whole lot more than they taught you at the range in order to make a proper decision as to when lethal force is called for.
I use Federal Premium Hollow Point LE Rounds or Gold Dots in +P to get them moving; it is important to have your round terminate in your assailant and not do a thru and thru hitting some innocent bystander - so keep that in mind as well when selecting your round based on your firearm and the weather. I load the heavier rounds in colder weather to compensate for heavy clothing and the lighter rounds in warm weather to ensure that my rounds don't go bounding around off the pavement and walls.
What do you carry? It's a good question and part of my answer would be anything is better than nothing. And never bring a knife to a gunfight. And know what you are doing and practice... it is not the same as target shooting. If all you are doing is target shooting you can expect less than one third of your rounds to have any chance of hitting their intended target under stress and in motion. Whatever you carry... train, train, train. And remember that you can be disarmed or fatally injured from 21 feet away, even if you manage to draw and stop your assailant en route to your jugular. Have a plan set up with your family even if it scares the crap out of them... it is important. Have a key word like "cover" which means get the hell out of here and seek cover immediately with the kids while you move in the other direction. And "headsup" spoken in a loud and serious voice to mean there may be trouble brewing and be ready. It's not just the gun, the round or the video you watched last year... it is about being prepared and training all the time. And not having to go looking for where you put your firearm when you need it.\\
Be safe out there.

The truth is that this is not an easy decision at all... I have been working on "what I carry" for two years now. My preference, all things being equal, would be for a full size ultra reliable handgun. Why full size? Easy. Fast to target, easier on the recoil, more accurate due to distance between sights, higher capacity (although I only ever carry ten rounds exactly of what I am using at any time in any event so that I can bring the gun back into Kanada with me and so that it makes counting my shots easier and more standard). Lots of reasons to carry a full size handgun... it also intimidates a bad guy more than a mouse gun if the BG is open for intimidation... the pulsating red laser does the same thing although contrary to popular opinion I don't believe it is worth a damn in a gunfight as targets are moving too fast. Anyway, my first choice would be a full sized, striker fired, ultra reliable, lightweight handgun. Not always practical. Especially in hot weather like we experienced in Lexington KY when we were there last year. Boy was it ever hot! I wound up carrying my Glock 30 OWB under a baggy shirt and it was great. Ten rounds of Gold Dots and/or Federal Premium Self Defense plust 1 in the tube. And two extra magazines each holding ten rounds of the same on the opposite side on my belt in what would look like a cellphone carrier if anyone saw it. 30 rounds of .45 plus one in the tube. If that doesn't take care of business you are in very serious trouble. If I am choosing to pocket carry I will use my G26 in a top quality pocket holster. My only issue with the Glocks is the lack of a thumb or grip safety and that is being resolved as we speak..... a great move that will add another 10 or 20 percent to Glock's already great sales. We also carry an HK P7M8, Walther P99, Sig P226 and on rare occasion a Para P1345 and a few others. They all have their claims to fame. That HK P7M8 is dead accurate for longer distance engagements although I have learned that the accuracy of pretty much any of these quality guns is more than ample for close quarters combat (CQB). The Walther P99 is light, accurate and eats anything I feed it. The Sig P226 the same. Oh, and the HK has a fixed barrel that runs on gas... no wobble and incredible accuracy but you pay for what you get. I have never had a failure on any of the above, ever. And that's my final rule. One failure is too many although I have taken the training to clear a jam the same as everyone else. In that 1.5 seconds an assailant can slice you wide open. If it's all the same I would simply rather not deal with it so most 1911's are off my list with the odd exception. Whatever you choose, it needs to be ONE HUNDRED PERCENT reliable, reasonably accurate and easy enough to carry that you never leave it behind. For that reason, when travelling I often use paddle holsters as we change clothes often, wearing shorts and T shirt during the day, perhaps jacket and shirt in the evening. It's gotta be easy unless you have one of those compulsive disorders. And the more I use my Glocks in competition, the more comfy I feel with them. I am still not at the point where I will carry my Glocks with one in the tube (and hence cocked and unlocked) IWB, but I will do so OWB, etc., where my chances of hitting a vital organ or artery are lessened. Glocks are one hundred and ten percent reliable and with only thirty odd moving parts they are easy to maintain.
So there you go. Latest update from the Torontogunguy. Where we can't carry concealed or otherwise. I have to come stateside in order to protect myself and my family legally.

Current carry is a SA XD .45 Service model and two spare mags. I'll be converting it to .400 Cor Bon shortly. I'll have to make sure it feeds reliably first before I start carrying as a .400 CB.
My workplace carry is a Kel Tec PF-9 in a bellyband. One spare mag.

When I'm working I wear a G17. Not working I vacillate between these three:
1. Kimber Ultra Carry II
2. Smith & Wesson Model 36 Chief's Special
3. FEG PA-63 9mm Makarov made in Hungary
Number #2 is the one I carry most often. It's the easiest to conceal in a Bianchi leather IWB and because I've been carrying one most of the time for the last forty years, I can shoot it well.
The Kimber is amazingly accurate and shoots like a dream. However, the Kimber is a bit heavier and a bit larger than the Smith, therefore somewhat harder to conceal, but it's quite do-able.
The PA-63 just because it's different and because ammo is plentiful and cheap. Most people think they can't be any good because they're so cheap ($190 for a new gun is cheap). But they're not cheaply made, have a pinned barrel, and with the addition of $18 for a recoil spring and hammer spring from Wolff, they're a hell of a bargain.
Plus 9mm Makarov ammo is PLENTIFUL AND CHEAP!

g27 or para 3" 45:cool:
I've owned and sold alot of guns, I've worked at gunshops since I was 21.
But I've only carried a few guns. I only wore what I trained with. Muscle memory, and hit chance of hits.
- My first daily carry gun was a Beretta 92, cops never gave it back when they stopped me and checked it "if it was stolen"
- I had a SW 469, it worked well. I gave a trigger job, and it helped, but I sold it.
- I had a HK USPc 45 that jammed ALOT, so it got sold.
- Kel-tec 32, and 380, sold, too small, lacked stopping power.
My carry rig now, is not worn everyday. I've been unarmed most of the time with family, or visiting family. They are not pro-or anti gun. I dont work at a gunshop anymore. But I do bring a Sig P6 with me sometimes. Or my HK USP or a rare occation.
G26 most of the time, sometimes the XD40SC.
Colt Mustang .380 auto.
Corbon Pow'RBall .380 ammo

I just got the qwikclip from crossbreed, I have to say it's a pretty nice holster. It only took them about 3 weeks to ship it to me. I'm still getting used to it. (I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the size of the picture, sry)

Honestly, I'm pretty lazy & busy so I usually just toss a J Frame or SP101 in my waistband. When I finally take the time to buy some clothes that fit I'll probably go back to the G29 or G30.
Sig p220 all ss carry elite. for bu -g27 I switch from a g30 to a g21sf to a sig p220 sas carry to a kimber cdp2(which i'm getting in 1 week) to a S&W m66 2 5/8" bbl and others:cool:

I don't carry very often. When I do:
1. G30 when I'm out in the country.
2. Desert Micro Eagle .380 for in town.

Depends on what I'm wearing.
G23 or S&W 638 Snubbie
At work-- Kel Tec .380. Pretty much the rest of the time-- Colt Officer .45. Me and that Colt been together about 30 years now, we've seen some stuff together. She's a little heavy around the middle, but she dresses up real nice, and she has never, ever, ever, ever failed to respond when I have called her name. Hell, my wife doesn't even do that ( but the "bark" is about the same.
