BTW the book is because I was looking for a background (couldn't find a Springfield catalog) and just though "well they kick ass and so does the 1911". It made sense to me at the time (I should have been asleep ;) ).

Hey no problem. A lot of guys drool at the amount and variety of some member's collections but those same guys in awe dropped $25K on a few NFA items and don't bat an eye. That's where I'd like to spend my money. Wanting to get an Uzi, Mac, or maybe Ruger AC556. Gotta clear up a lot of CC debt before that happens.

Do a google search for "Ken Lunde and EMP" to see his photos of an EMP wearing them. You'll definitely make up your mind then.

Like others have said, post the picture. We all started our collections somewhere. That is a great 1911 you have, it will give you many great years of use.
One of my favorite 1911's to shoot at the range is my STI Spartan. Nothing fancy, but it works every time, and is very accurate. I use it almost every time someone wants to learn about shooting the 1911. There is just something about that gun, that makes me love shooting it.
No one will ever give you trouble about posting a picture of a 1911, except maybe a Taurus. There are several of us that would rank it as the worst feeling, and shooting 1911 on the market.
I would love to see pictures of your 1911.
Post the Norinco. We do want to see it.

That picture is better than most of the ones posted. It shows the youth, spending time, enjoying, learning, and studying our great sport/hobby.
There is nothing better than being able to share your passion about firearms, and the 1911 with others, and especially your family. I think it is great every time I see a picture with youths shooting. It is the future of our sport!

I don't care if you adopt me.
I just want a couple of your 1911's. We all know that fathers usually spoil their sons and "share" their nice collection of guns.
Please tell me the best way to get a few of your 1911's. Even if it is to only borrow them for a few years. A well built 1911 will out-last us. So what is a few years?
Maybe do something like the holster library. Try one before you buy it? I would be willing to pay shipping both ways, if I could "borrow" a few of your 1911's.
Let me know what works best for you? Adoption? You could then qualify for a tax write off. Library, I can borrow from?

Wow! Looks too pretty to shoot.
Never to pretty to shoot. I would not use it to go take a week long course, but I will shoot it. I have confidence in the gun to make it through the class, but I have other 1911's with a more durable finish I would take.
I even take my engraved guns and shoot them. Some of the people where I shoot think I am crazy because of the guns I actually shoot.
The only guns I do not shoot on a regular basis are the ones that belong to my father. They are nothing fancy, but could never be replaced, if damaged, or lost. These guns are shot once or twice a year. September 5, marks one year since my father passed away. I will take his guns to the range over the weekend and shoot them.
I could not imagine buying a gun, and not shooting it. The only reason not to shoot a gun is because of the loss in value. I am a shooter who collects gun, I do not collect guns just to have them, or for an investment. I will never sell most of these guns, so resale means nothing to me.
I am starting to try and collect some of the WW II Colt's. The only reason I would not shoot one of them is if it was original, and not safe to shoot it.
My FFL also has an indoor shooting range. I usually pick up a gun, use one of their offices to break it down, inspect, clean, and oil the gun, and then shoot it. I usually like to shot 100 - 200 rounds through it, then I take it home and clean it. This one will be no exception.

Good for you.
I, too, can't see owning a firearm I wouldn't shoot. And, like you, I have some that were passed to me by my Grandpa that are somewhat valuable, but are occasionally shot.
I can't think of a greater honor for your Father's guns than to shoot them.

Does it rattle?
Is it accurate?
Will it feed HPs?
Thanks

The work was done by Novaks (http://www.novaksights.com/index.htm ). The grips are customs made by Terrence Sealey (tstoffer1@juno.com) or visit his eBay store at: http://stores.ebay.com/Sealeys-Custom-Wood-Grips . He now has a Colt Officer/Defender mold and can make custom grips if your interested. He is the best there is.
My problem now is it is to nice to carry. Almost.

I like it. When I'm ready for another 1911, I think I will get one that looks like that. The more I see these blued steel 1911s with dark grips, the more I think that is the look.

What precisely did you have them do? I have a Colt Defender and I'm about to send it to Novak for sights, new grip safety and MSH (I have and am sending w/ the gun). I'm curious to know what else you had done. It looks FANTASTIC!

SC, I also tried my new lighting technique with my Classic Custom. I think they turned out well also. They are different due to the gun's mirror bluing on the slide.

You either need a light box to place the gun in, or a difuser on the light. If you look you are getting a reflection of the light on the slide of the gun.
The best thing to do is natural lighting outside, on a tripod.
You can make a light box, for under 20.00 using PVC pipe, and thin white material. If you want, I can take pictures of what I use. It cost me about $14.00 for the box, and about $20.00 for the lights.
Your camera should also have a white balance, which will eliminate the "pink" carpet.
My biggest problem is that I know how to take good pictures, now have all the tools and equipment, I just don't have the time to set everything up, and do it.
I still like the pink carpet, it added character to your pictures.

Yeah, you can see the light in the slide. I sort of did that on purpose to show the mirror finish.
I'll keep experimenting.
I live in a pretty tight development with a bunch of young kids around. Its difficult to take gun pics outside without the neighbors raising an eyebrow.
I thought about doing a setup like the one you describe as well.

Did you ever hear me talk about using a white sheet? Essentially you put the gun down with full bright sun on it through a window and hold a white sheet up behind the camera so the sun has to pass through the sheet to light the gun ( assuming you are using a tripod and automatic shutter timer). The sheet disperses the light much like a light box. That's how I did these.
