Hey guys... anyone add a rail to their 1911?

Pictures?

Did you do it yourself or have it done?

I'd like to add one to my Springfield 1911-A1 so I can attach some white-light when needed.

It is ugly... but looks as if it'd work... and easy to put on AND take off which means my Springer wouldn't be permanently altered...

Hmmmmm... this Springer is just going to live in my glove box...

A co-worker had Dave Severns put one on his kimber. Worked out well. If one must go that route it seems like a good one.

Here you go. http://ezine.m1911.org/Tick_frame.htm

I just got done reading the whole review above & gotta say; THANKS craig19!

After reading the following...

"... the TICK Rail is designed such that, once fitted to the frame, it can be installed and removed without taking out the slide stop... The rail unit has enough flex that it can be slid onto the frame and snap right over the proprietary slide stop pin... What this means is that the pistol can actually be carried in any holster, and the light can be carried already attached to the TICK Rail. Sliding the TICK Rail with light installed onto the pistol is no more difficult or time consuming than sliding a tactical light onto a fixed rail. In fact, it’s probably faster."

... I am ALL about this TICK Rail & will going this route for my G.I. instead of the one at Brownells!

I never understood the Dawson rail appeal. Still need an adapter for it to fit ONE specific light on there. Still need a holster adapted for the rail. It may look nice and thin, but after spending another $200+ for just parts, I say FAIL!!!

Still cheaper than an entire new pistol.

That ONE brand of light is the best on the market right now, so I don't see an issue there. You'll need a light either way, why not get the best.

Even in a ground up build, the price difference between a Dawson and integral frame are very close. Trust me, I priced it out before making my choice.

Either way you go a special holster might be needed so that's a mute point.

You're right about it being cheaper than a pistol.

I don't have a doubt, that currently, the X300 is one of the best tactical light on the market.

I guess my point it why don't they just make a rail that doesn't require an adapter. It's basically a half-arse job of a design. I rather get a rail from Novak and won't need to buy an adapter, and then just use whatever light I want.

I wouldn't say it's a poor design, it's just a design of its time. It offered the ability to use the same holsters, or through minor mods to make them work.

I think any add-on rail is dated with so many LR frames being available.

I've never cared for the Novak or Pictianny style in general. They work great, but after carrying my Pro LR, I found it had way too many snag points for CCW.

Have SEVERAL... but each are worth twice as much as I have into this Springfield G.I.!

This G.I. I have, that I'm wanting this rail for, will be replacing a G17 as my 'glove box gun'.

I'd stick with the 17 for that purpose. 33 round mags come in handy to thwart a car jacking. ;)

If I am ever so lucky wo land at a department that allows 1911's for duty carry I think this is the route I'll go. Probably a TRP and let Novak add the Dawson rail.
