So I got news from my store manager that the Sig 716 gas piston powered 308 will be joining the ranks pretty soon. Within a week or two they're expected to be on our shelves. Going rate? Approx $1800 (+/-) Anyone have input on what they think of these things? I've not played with any 308 AR piston guns yet. Looks promising. May be my next rifle.

I pawed it over at last year's SHOT Show. I didn't find anything visibly wrong with it, but it doesn't do anything for me.

There are already proven .308 battle rifles out there in that price range. I don't see any reason to buy an untested one, and especially since it doesn't offer anything unique. Seems like another "me too" offering.

Wonder if the magazines are based off of a current design or unique to Sig?

Indeed. It seems Sig's answer to it's numerous quality issues is to produce more junk. Save your money.

not interested in a SIG 516 or 716 especially if the in store price is 1800 dollars. i saw a picture of a sig in 308 that was similar in design to the 550 series rifles and would be all over one if sig made them available in the US. DPMS, BM, armalite, POF, LWRC and rock river all make good ar15 style rifle in 308 that i would buy before i bought the sig.

Mags are Armalite. I think the BCG is a modified Armalite Ar10

Better price point than I thought. The Sig 556s sell even with the crappy furniture. I'm sure these will sell. If they took Sr25/dpms mags I'd look closer. LMT stock.

With all due respect sir, the AR-15 is an AR-10 style rifle in 5.56/.223, not the other way around!

Nice! Now they just need tomake it with a longer rail and it'll be good to go.

with all due respect sir I said "AR15 style rifles in 308" As far as i know only the armalite is known as an AR10.

He means that the AR-10 was developed first and the AR-15 is derivitive of that. However, "AR-15" has become more of a generic term for the Stoner Direct Impingment in 5.56 and similiar intermediate caliber, while AR-10 still is used to refer to the actual Armalite product as you used it. He must have mistakenly thought you were transposing the "AR-10" label to Stoner style .308 caliber rifles in the same way that "AR-15" has been used.

Now it's all gone pedantic in here, bleh. I've actually just punched myself for being a *********. :tongueout:

Like all the other .308 AR's these days, it's quite lame. I want the real AR-10. The one the overseas heroes carried bravely into battle. The one that made the terrorists in Angola cry.

That is a VERY nice looking rifle, which I would seriously consider if Sig does a good job with it.

I posted it as a joke... that's from the SIG Law Enforcement booth. If they ever come with a civilian version they will first hybrid-ize it with an economy grade AR.

They will never sell us that rifle or the classic 55X series. It's like the opposite of Market Research.

I just got a POF P-308 the other day. I haven't shot it yet, it's 8 degrees out. :P I might have to take it to the 25 yard indoor range just so I can shoot it before May.

This what I'm talking about the SAPR is badass....if SIG released this for civilian purchase I'd be all over one but instead SIG releases just another BS AR chambered in 308. I'd rather buy a AR10 from armalite, a DPMS AP4 or rock river before i bought the SIG 716.

If SIG wanted to produce a 55X with European QA/QC standards, it would cost as much or more than the new SCAR/ ACR weapons.

The 556 is a novelty gun for those who want "something different" than a run of the mill economy-grade AR.

I see the new 7.62x39 gun as not doing very well either, since the price gap between an economy-grade AR and a 556 is much more narrow than a WASR and the new 7.62x39 SIG will be.
