I am planning to finish this up over the next 2 weeks or so depending on my schedule. Both pistols will be ran in the same fashion.

Warning - I may have double images or things out of order, I will try to fix ASAP.

Part 1:

NH Enforcer

Prior Round Count: 150

Ammo: 200gr FMJ, 4.8gr Bullseye, 1.25 OAL

This ammo was a PITA to run in my SA Pro, in fact, it would barely run. I figured I'd use it here since I had some left over and wanted to get rid of it, and if this pistol ran it, that would say something to me.

Mags Used:

7 Rounders - Metalform and Les Baer TRS's
8 Rounders - Wilson 47D's, ETM's, Tripp Cobra's, and NH/ACT-Mag.

The pistol was lubed with TW-25 prior to the start, lube was added every 350-400 rounds as we took breaks to let the smoke vent out. Added lube was in the form of 10w-30, I figured this would be a good test for it.

I started with accuracy style shooting since I always could be better. The NH hits POA and can put one on top of the other if I do my part. I worked strong/weak hand shooting at various distances. I only did about 200 rounds like this before I switch to the second phase.

I don't have a holster at this time for the LR so I couldn't practice draws. I made due, back to the target, with the pistol on the table, low-ready, high-ready, double-taps, triple-taps, transitions from strong to weak hand, point shooting...basically whatever I could think of to mix things up.

The carnage after 960 rounds. I miscounted since I planned for 1000 rounds...oh well.

I tried to catch it smoking after my friend ran the last few mags but just couldn't

Results:

I took a video toward the end of the shooting, not sure if I'll post it yet. It caught one reoccurring problem, this pistol did not like an old 47D mag. It would only lock 50% of the time.

I had 4 FTFeeds and a few failures to lock with Wilson mags . 3 with the above and one with an ETM. None of the other mags gave me any trouble, and since my Wilson's are older, I don't think it was the pistol.

It happened toward the end of the test. In the beginning I was using the NH/ACT's and didn't start using every mag until I wanted to speed things up.

Overall:

I really like this pistol, especially after the grief my SA Pro has given me. The NH is not overly tight yet holds it own against those that are. I kinda prefer a pistol that is a little looser the more I shoot.

I know people like to rake NH over the coals from past issues, but given my experience, I don't care what some say or think. This pistol has begun to prove itself worth of being one of my CCW/HD choices.

Test 2 with the SA will hopefully be early February depending on my free time.

Test 3 will be HP ammo and the ultimate judgment. If both pass, they will have close to 1500 rounds and I will feel comfortable carrying either

Well done review. Looks like you had your work cut out for you cleaning that.

Thanks, it honestly wasn't too bad to clean. I remember the days of cleaning 240B's and M2's after range days so 1K though a pistol is a cakewalk.

A video toward the end, I think this was 700-750 rounds in. At this point I was tired and simply point shooting. My thumb got torn up from riding to high and the slide left a nice gash.

Distance here is about 12 yards.

There were two of the FTF's here as well as one failure to lock...I think.

I like the looks of the nighthawk. Beyond that though, that is pretty awesome reliability for a gun with previously only 150 rounds through it in a series of firearms where they are allowed to be unreliable when new until they "break in."

I won't knock you for the oil. It kept it running. Wet and dirty is far better than dry and dirty.

I'm sad to hear about the troubles with your recent SACS builds. My custom carry was very reliable, and the only issue it ever had was sometimes failing to lock open on the last round with Wildon 47D's. Other than that, it was always 100% with ball and JHP (primarily 230 grain golden saber) through any mag I put in it. It would always lock back with CMC power mags.

Great review, beautiful weapons, but I think they haven't yet qualified for anything other than range guns.

Ditto on the Glocks for carry guns. If I had it to do all over, I'd only own a few Glock 19s.

OTOH, my SACS built G.I. has been very reliable with about 1K of ball and 200 or WWB JHPs and maybe 100 Winchester PDX1s. I use Wilson 47s for JHPs.

I specified "ream chamber to G.I. spec" on my order form. Maybe it does help.

I run a G.I. spec chamber and all G.I. spring weights in my 1911s and they run like tops.

I have had excellent results using Checkmate's G.I. spec mags with JHPs also.

FWIW, the "holy grail" Colt and Checkmate hybrids and Tripps 7&8 rounders have been my most unreliable mags.

I really like the NSN numbered Wilson 47s and the Checkmate G.I.s the best. Two totally different mags, one as controlled round feed as you can get, the other as uncontrolled. Go figure.

Yeah I think the match chamber is a bad idea unless you're a careful reloader. Otherwise, it makes the gun unreliable and the benefit of the match chamber is never realized anyway.

This thread reminds me that I need to call SACS and specify the G.I. chamber on the Custom Carry I ordered in Sept.

Did you change your orders with SACS after you placed 'em? I'm wanting to make some changes to my order, but haven't been able to get through on the phone. You have Deb's email address? I lost it...

Yea, that does suck. When I got my CA Custom Operator in Jun 2008, I had to send it back right away because of an "idiot scratch" and the thumb safety having the biggest "hole" that I had ever seen.

So, I know what it is like to send a gun back right away. And, I hadn't even shot mine yet. But, I got it back in a month. They had to hard chrome a new safety to match, so that's what made it take so long.

Well, I personally would buy another Custom Shop Springer... I actually did, and would have had it in hand a few months ago. But I was ill in early 2009, and they were nice enough to let me cancel and have all of my 30% back except $10. If I had the cash, I'd buy another fullr ail operator from them - this time in 45 ACP.

I must say I agree with you on the NH. As much as I love my SA CC and the Pro my GRP appears to be more accurate then the others. I have not really compared it to my Baers yet but that GRP always likes to give better groupings & the trigger feels perfect! I am looking foward to your future range reports = )
