Hey guys, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I just thought I would share my latest project with you..

Basically Iím painting up a shotgun in a WWII nose art fashion /look.
My thought was, that I'll make the 870 look more like a ďcockpit gunĒ, something that the crew members would grab on the way out the door..

Ok so hereís where Iím at..

I dismantled the 870 as far as I dare go, then I sprayed everything down with Duracoatís Truestrip Cleaner / Degreaser. This stuff works GREAT for what it worth.

After degreasing the parts, everything was lightly sanded with 400 gr paper, then washed off with just water and thoroughly dried. At this point I sprayed everything down with two light coats of Bulldog Adhesive. Iím not worried about the Duracoat sticking to the metal, but the stock, forgrip, etc are all plastic and wellÖ. Bulldug and never let me down..

After waiting for the BD to dry (15 min) I started on my initial base coat and covered everything in an Urban Mirage White. Itís really more of a storm cloud look, IMO anyway.. now that Iíve got everything dry Iím putting her back together so I can continue on with the base colors.

Again Iím really looking for that WWII forest / olive green at this point, so Iím just mixing up some colors until I find just the right one..

Ahh found itÖ

Ok so here we have the gun after itís first few light, sorry about the flash / bright pic

Here we have the base coat done and Iím starting in on the nose art.. This is where I have my fun.. ;)

I’m about 75% complete at this point.. I’ve got to add some “other stuff” and touch up a few areas here and there, then I’ll be able to move to the other side.. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I’m thinking about doing the other side in the “ Twerp or Sad Sack” theme..

Very cool. I love nose art. Got any plans to weather it?

My avatar is my own "nose art" I made that I planned to use on an R/C plane. Still don't have the plane for it.

I don't hate it, I just don't get it. A shotgun painted like a WWII bomber? I can see a car with a plane theme or even a motorcycle, but a gun? Seems like a convoluted idea. Makes no sense to me but I certainly support your right to do it.

What a fun project! As the son of a WWII and Iwo Jima survivor I applaud your efforts to keep an American icon alive. Nose art is the art of the times that the "Greatest Generation" lived thru to insure our freedoms.

That is a fantastic job on the artwork. I'm thinking a GI-type 1911 done in a similar fashion is in order thought. :wavey:

Seriously, I bet if you had the interest, you could make a nice side business of doing custom finish work on guns. I love the idea of having artwork on my guns, not just the usual "tactical" flat, solid colors, or some iteration of camo. I just don't have the talent to back it up.

While I like it, when I think 'Nose Art' ugly guys and animals do not come to mind.

All the really memorable ones for me involved long legged, large breasted, scantily clad FEMALES! LOL

Now that would be what I would want to grab.

I think a Sprigfeild Armory GI 1911 in OD green with the sharks mouth and eyes at the front would look awesome.

How did you paint the case?

Hey AM..

I just used a fabric paint. You pretreat your project with (Pree Tee) fabric sealer, then you use fabric paint (Createx) and then seal it again when you're done..

I've had the case for that last 2 years and it looks even better in person.

Thanks again for the kind words and I hope the information helps

Fantastic project! From a military guy's standpoint...totally loving the nose art theme!

Thank you.. That’s what I was going for.. I'm a huge fan of the of old school military and IMO you just dong see anything new and fun (but in old school) anymore..

I'm glad you like thanks..

Here’s something you might like? I did up my hard case and painted a naked girl on a can of “WHOOP A-S”

That is a fantastic job on the artwork. I'm thinking a GI-type 1911 done in a similar fashion is in order thought.

Seriously, I bet if you had the interest, you could make a nice side business of doing custom finish work on guns. I love the idea of having artwork on my guns, not just the usual "tactical" flat, solid colors, or some iteration of camo. I just don't have the talent to back it up.

Here’s a (GAPish) thing I'm do for a guy, on a AR10 now.. I think when it’s completed it should look pretty cool.
