I have been thinking about a basic 1911 for some time now. And i like the Rock Island Armory version. But I have been able to resist the temptation for some time. Even so I have followed the 1911 forum because you never know when you might learn something new. From time to time I would see a positive comment on the gun and the temptation would grow. Still I resisted. Then recently a GT'er started a thread on the RIA and in came the comments. Good basic gun. Nice first 1911. I love mine...blah , blah, blah. TROUBLEMAKERS ! I found one that was unfired in the box with Pachmar(spelling) grips for four hundred bucks. And I bought it. Now I kinda like a few other 1911's but I'm not saying which. I'm afraid you guys will talk them up and i'll have to sell my first born.

This is how the sickness starts. You get curious. You wonder what you're missing out on. You fondle one.....realizing how ridiculous a 1911 trigger feels compared to Tupperware and wonder how you've missed out on this. You buy a "beginner" 1911 to see how you like it. Then you get the urge to upgrade and/or tinker with yours. You say forget it and buy a little nicer 1911. Then you are hanging out with your 1911 buddies at the range and start to notice semi-customs. Then you make the mistake of shooting a buddie's semi-custom and before you know it.....you are dropping $2k+ on one. Then start looking at the next one....

Welcome to the addiction my friend. Enjoy the ride...

This is exactly how it happens. Ask how Hokie and I know.
Oh and when you get tired of dealing with the low level dealers you can go the KINGPIN migunslingers.com $100 is all you need to start your journey to the poor house and possibly this if your married.

The worst thing you can do is hang out here. Don't start talking to Dave (DRC) and definitely don't go on George's site (migunslingers.com). Stay away from bac1023 and Quack and don't look at any pictures on this site. Your bank account and your marriage will thank you later.

George is a crack dealer....with layaway. He lures you in with high-end product and closes the deal with fantastic service then slowly drains your bank account over 12 months with his layaway. He's a total enabler. :crying:

You done did it now. There is no turning back. You looked at the website and now you won't be able to stop thinking about owning one. You know if you sold one of those Glocks you would have a nice chunk to send to George to get your semi-custom build started.:supergrin:

I was thinking I could get by with only one kidney...or selling my youngest on the black market. A 3 year old blue eyed, blonde haired healthy boy could fetch enough for an Heirloom Precision build. :whistling:

Then watch it go from 1-2-3-5-6k All of a sudden you think the 1k pistol is inexpensive lol

For many years I looked down the 1911 path and knew it to be a slippery slope. I ignored all the 1911 articles in the gun rags and was completely happy with my plastic.

Over the last year or two, though, I began to feel that as a red-blooded American, I needed at least one 1911, and I told myself and quite believed that one would do. So I bought a TRP, and I have grown to love my 1911. After shooting it some, there are things I'd like to change, and I began to think that rather than change my TRP, I'd just buy another 1911 that better suits me.

Then I get onto that migunslingers site and see that Volkmann with the case hardened frame. I don't care for all the crap on the slide, but mate that frame with a naked slide in a deep, deep blue, and oh my.

I agree the cheapness factor gets you at first, the reliability and shoot ability keeps you hooked. My next gun with either be a 3.5 inch colt/personal built or a 9mm RIA tactical range beater gun.
