I need a good dependable home defense auto-loader shotgun.
Budget would be about $750. I've shot Mossberg & Remington pumps.
What do you guys suggest?

In that case I would go with either a Mossberg 930 SPX or Remington 1100 for control familiarity...

Agreed. Can't go wrong with 930 SPX.

Get an 870, it will take you literally one afternoon to familiarize yourself with the weapon. It's a classic, proven design.

^^^ auto loader fool... I have stared at the 930 SPX for hours at a time before. It is reliable with anything from birdshot to buck and slugs, so I think this fits your bill perfectly.

Just trying to live vicariously through you LOL.

Enjoy it, it is a great weapon, and I will get one eventually:drool:.

I would think that one is the standard stock. The cheapest I can find locally for the PG version is $699 + tax WHEN they were in stock. :faint:

If you're a Remmy fan, I guess there is the 1100....

That's the debate. However, the 930 SPX was 2009 shotgun of the year. However much merit that holds, there has to be something said for it, when it was chosen over the MORE expensive guns. Like previously stated, I will own one of these 930's someday, maybe soon :whistling:.

Dicks SG does have the best price on the 930 spx espeically when their having a sale going on. I wish i bought mine there instead of bud's. I could have saved $50 bucks. You can always buy the choate PG stock online for $65 plus shipping if you wanted one. It's cheaper that way.

The Mossberg 930 SPX was 09? Shotgun of the Year, and it's just AWESOME. I got mine in Jan of last year, when the internet was abuzz with the talk of the 930 SPX and GlockTalkers were all over the forums talking about them, and I was not the first but one of the first to jump. I am soooo happy i just took the plunge, and I was able to learn from all the smart people on this forum. Now it is not my most expensive firearm in the portfolio but its the most unsellable/unsaleable -- and despite the love for my new hooked up AR and feeling all blacktical tacktical with my single point sling on (LOL just kidding) this is the weapon I'm grabbing if my life is in danger around the house .

I keep mine with the tube full, but I don't have one chambered. But I keep 5 00 Buck in the tube, a stock cloth carrier of 2 more -- Buck, 2 Slugs, and 1 birdshot, and also a single slug, buck, and birdshot next to it. So I can chamber a round quickly and replace the buck in the tube or if necessary make the first round a slug (or bird if some reason necessary). Right now I have my Bad Mother F@#$%R loaded with Winchester PDX-1 , cause it was on sale at Dick's. my FAVORITE HD Load is Hornady TAP, which is also slightly smaller, and it was on sale for a WHILE at Dick's from like $15/5 down to $7.97/5. the thing is you can almost get two more round with it ,and in NJ I can't spare it (on a semi auto) so it scares me to use for HD. Worst luck ,you bust a cap in a badguy trying to kill you or family etc, and you go to the clink cause they find you had an extra round capcacity etc. in your shotgun cause you were using shorter shot shells.

Only in Jersey I'm sure.
