Anyone notice that Widener's has Wolf primers on sale.

SPP $15.50/k (less than 5k) or $15.00/k (5k or more) :wow:

LPP $16.00/k (less than 5k) or $15.50/k (5k or more) :wow:

I know many don't like Wolf and many here will scream to buy American, but I have no problems with them.

RATS! Ya caught me at a weak moment before my nighttime meds wore off... ordered 20K... 10K SP and 10K LP.

CCI's run $33K locally, I haven't had any problems with my last order of Wolfs and at 10 years ago pricing you really can't beat 'em.

I was always told not to buy Wolf ammo because it's steel cased. Are the primers good to use? As good as any others?

Being newer to reloading I've only used a small amount of the SPP and LPP but they all worked fine. They tend to be a bit tighter to seat.

I read some reviews after I posted that last question and it seems that Wolf primers work just as well as any others. Some say they may be a bit tighter to seat, like you said, which doesn't really seem like an issue. The cost savings between Wolf and CCI (which is what I'm using currently) is enormous!

It is an issue if they do not fire, which is what happens when you don't get them seated well. I had no issues w/ the LP but quite a few problems w/ the SP. I would never use them unless forced to. I would still trust the LP, at least until I have an issue w/ them. For that price, maybe a 10K order to stash away is worth it. Keep in mind, the NFPA says no mor ethan 10K primers in residential storge. I am sure none of us has more than that.:whistling:

I don't want to break the law, therefor, I don't use primers.

I get 'strike anywhere matches' by the case, though.

I think wolf has moved over to "tula."
Same stuff, different package.
Therefore, I believe that everyone is dumping all the wolf stuff for some reason.

Oh man...Grafs has raised the price on CCI SPP to $139/5000. I thought I'd paid like $110/5000 on my last order. I've resisted trying Wolf/Tula, but maybe not for much longer.

Not a dingbat. Just someone who wanted to give back to others who he has learned much from.
I rarely post here, but I do enjoy and appreciate what this board offers.

I've had no problem with Wolf primers. I use LP, SP and SR. Wideners is about a 70 minute drive so I order and pick up to save shipping and hazmat.

you guys are killing me.
should I order 10K of the Wolf SPP or not?
do they work or don't they?
plan to use them in range loads, not carry.

I am very partial to the CCI SPP (blue box). Was planning on buying some at the gun show this weekend.

Widener's would be $75/5000 plus $25 Hazmat for a total of $175.

The gun show will probably be about $130 to $150 for just 5000 of the CCI.

edit to add: I hand prime with an old Lee Hand Primer, not progressive.

I had some last year that were junk. Wolf even recalled some. It appears to be a one time deal. They are harder to seat, but if you pay attention its no big deal.

I ordered 30K delivered at $21 a K. a couple of days later they really uped their price. Thankfully my years supply is here and I don't have to worry about it for a while.

Powder valley also has wolf for 15 a K.

I have some guns that will ignite them and other that won't. In my case, I can't seem to to be able to have them go "bang" with 100% of consistency in my plastic guns. Yet I have no problems using them in guns with hammers.

I haven't had any problems with any not going off. They always go bang for me in all my guns. The problem I have had is they seem out of spec. Sometimes they don't slip into my 9mm cases without a lot of effort. Every now and then one gets ruined. But for $15 a K, I'll make do. I just ordered some.

I guess I should have disclosed that these guns I am talking about all have pretty light trigger jobs. You are right about the Wolf primers being harder to seat; they do require a lot more force than, for example Federal.

On my G17 I've had issues with some light strikes under the similar set-up. My compromise is to go with the minus connector and regular springs. This solved that issue for me. The primers I was having issues with were Lead Free CCI Small Pistol. When I used them up, I never went back to after market springs.

I'll have to think about this. I'm torn. I love my Bullseye Powder and CCI primers. Being risk adverse sucks.

OK, I did the math. I figure the benefit of Wolf over my CCI (small pistol) is about 80 cents per box of 50. If I can find some to try I will, but not ready to order 10K yet.

I didn't have very good luck with the Wolf SP. One in ten didn't fire, some took three pin hits to light off. I made sure they were seated deep enough.

If they eventually fired seems to me they weren't initially seated far enough. Primer construction is not hard to understand. Some take harder strikes than others however If they were truly defective, they wouldn't fire period. I have had very minimal problems in the over 15K WOLF primers I have loaded, all failures have been explained as high seated ones

The cheapest price I have found for bullets is Zero (Roze Distribution). 1k of 223 $80 to your door, no tax or shipping. 1K 40 $116.06, 1K 45 $117.45.
FMJ not plated, and shoots great.

Berrys 9mm 124 gr Flat Point 1000 Count $74.00
Berrys 40/10mm 180 gr Flat Point Double Struck 1000 Count $100.00
Berrys 45 Cal 200 gr Flat Point 1000 Count $110.00

Extreme are a buck less.

Personally I prefer to shoot 40 but shoot a lot more 9mm than 40 just because of the price difference. I don't even want to look at the cost of 45. If the price dropped I would feel better about shooting the 40 more.

Don't forget shipping which is approx another $25. Powder Valley was offering free shipping an hazmat on Tula primers but it winds up being cheaper to get the Wolf and pay for shipping and hazmat. Go figure.

Wolf SPP work fine for Glocks with standard trigger springs. I've used about 20K over the last couple years. They do seat a little harder dependent on the case manufactuer. Make sure to do a second strike check if they you get a FTF the first time. People always complain that they are defective but the reality is thier QC failed.
