My dad has an old SKB 12 gauge semi-auto shotgun in the basement and I was curious if its worth restoring and rebuilding into a HD and target gun.

It hasnt been used in at least 15-20 years and it has camouflage tape all over it..

Are SKB's quality guns or bottom of the barrel?

Interesting history.

I've only dealt with their O/U shotguns, but they were very good quality.

I took all the tape off and its an XL series 5 shot .. only bad thing is it has some surface rust on the end of the barrel

SKB guns are made by Miroku in Japan. Miroku also makes guns for Weatherby and many SKB models are made on the same receivers and actions as the Weatherby line but of course the fit and finish are different. Not worse mind you but different.

It has a 20 inch barrel but SKB doesnt list a 20 inch replacement barrel so I guess I will go with a 22 inch barrel and get a recoil pad for the stock

Which XL series is it?

The XL 100 was a top tier combat shotgun endorsed by Jeff Cooper and Chuck Taylor.
