I want to change the night sights on my G19, but the front factory night sight is staked. How do I remove this without damaging the slide?

You should be able to use a pair of needle nose pliers to squeeze the staked part together and then pull the sight out from the top. If the sight is the plastic one it will probably not be reusable.

lay the slide upside down, with the sight over the edge of a table.

while holding the slide, place the tip of a small punch, or screwdriver, on the stake, tap it with mallet, it should just pop out.

If it is the plastic front sight, just grip it with a needle nose pliers and pull it out.- not reusable anyways.

Do you have to replace it with a staked sight or will one with the screw work for replacement?

A Glock front sight with the screw will fit just fine. So will most aftermarket front sights.

You will be GTG with the screw on one.

For both staked and screw sights, its easiest to have the right tool for installation, just like the rear sight.

There is a Glock staking tool, specific for staking.

Also you will need an appropriate LOW profile nut driver if you use a screw in type. You can booger this one up by stripping the thread.

If it is one gun, just pay an armorer to do it. If its multiple guns, then buy the tools.
