I posted this in my 1911 thread, but got no response.

Upon field stripping my 1911 for the first time, I noticed that the dust cover has some really weird splay at the end of it.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49917/gunstuff/Photo%20Mar%2009%2C%201%2037%2001%20AM.jpg

Now I'd expect this from a Glock, but from a steel 1911, I thought it was a bit weird. I'm not sure what to do with it. It doesn't seem to affect anything, and the pistol functions just fine, but it looks weird.

Should I go through the process to get it replaced? Or should I just shoot it. And if I do return it, should I contact Armscor? Citadel? Or galleryofguns.com, where I ordered it.

I would maybe email where you got it from with a picture attached and they could probably tell you what to do from there.

You have more info here than the 1911 forum I answered you in. What I would do is contact Armscor which I have no doubt would have a replacment gun sent to you ASAP upon receiving that monstrosity. I defiantly wouldn't just keep it no matter how reliable it is unless you like to express yourself with some flare......oookay?

This is not a rag on you at all OP, but its funny that nobody seems to realize that phone numbers exist anymore. Everyone wants to text, tweet, blog and e-mail instead of talking with someone. :tongueout:

Armscor website has a whole slew of numbers: http://www.armscor.com.ph/contacts.htm

Did not mean for my comment to have sounded like it did,.....apologies.
I guess nearly every manufacturer has a few slip out the door that are
not quite up to the best QC standards.

Armscor will take care of you,......ask for help and explain your concerns,
try not to demand they fix it

Okay, this is interesting. I got a reply from Armscor.

Joshua,

It will cause no problems, it is there for clearance. It can be squeezed down some but if you go too far it will cause problems.

So if I have it replaced, will I get another one with this as well?

I understand that it is a new 1911 and they 'should' fix it. --BUT-- It's quite easy to fix yourself if you don't want to go through the hassle of sending it back.

If someone, including yourself, can't handle a little sarcasm about a couple of small scratches on the INSIDE of a dustcover of a Phillipino made 1911 then life is going to be tough.

i love my cheap 1911! i wouldnt buy an expensive one knowing i could buy a cheap one that works. ive never had any problems with my pt. just makes me not wanna pay $3000+ for a "custom" piece. dont get me wrong, ide love having one and im sure theyre sweet to look at, but frankly i would be afraid to shoot anything that expensive. i just cant justify paying that much for something i can get for wayyyy cheaper.

Despite the problem with the frame, I think the quality of my Citadel 1911 is outstanding. It's solid, well built, and feels like it would last a long time. It's just rather unfortunate I got one with a defect.
