rem 870 w/extention question

I have a remington 870 12 guage that I was making into a tactical shotgun. I have a problem however. At the end of the magazine tube their are 2 dimpals that will keep a shell form entering the mag extention.
The gun had a plastic cap at the end of the magazine tub that held the spring in place. I pushed it in and turned it a half a turn and it came out.
Anyway I can not use my mag extention on this gun. do I have to replace the magazine turb? Grind the tabs off?

You can do a google search for some more information, but the short answer is grind those tabs.
