Ok I went to the range today and rented a 1911 and I fell in love. I have always wanted a 1911 since I was a little boy so after today I am in the Market everthing else can just take a back burner. With that being said I got like 500dollars to spend OTD what are my options or am I out of luck? I am personally looking for basic GI model. Can you suggest any decent manufactures at my price point? Thanks guys

what did you rent? There are many different features between 1911's. So a GI/Mil-Spec doesn't have a beavertail GS, so it will be a little higher on your grip, so it will feel alittle different.

But then 1911's are very customizable. So if you do get a GI/Mil-Spec it can be customized to YOUR 1911.

Also, depending on what you'll use it for, getting the right "base-gun" can help with the build, if that's what you want to do.

Look at the sticky in this forum for some great guide.

Personally I was looking at a milspec that I might have customized over time. I gonna differently take a look at the guides I would much rather pay little more now then a lot more later

That was my first thought cause I had read about them on here. I called around and no one has any and there is no ETA on when they will get more. I cant even find them online which stinks. Does anyone know when there might be a possibility there will be more on the market?
Or
Should I start saving up a little extra and get a Springfield Armory 1911 GI. Also whats the going price for the spring field I asked at my local range and they where quoting around 715 which seems pricey for entry level 1911

Here's a Citadel, similar to the RIA Tactical + FCS.

Call Sarco, Inc. at 908-647-3800. If you buy from them, they will need to have a dealer's FFL copy sent to them in order to ship it to that dealer.

Don't get ripped off. Here try Gunbroker, the link below is a good price but you can search for Rock Island 1911 and find some good/well reviewed dealers. :wavey:

The citadel is a solid gun. Mine had a problem with it, but I should be able to replace it fairly easily.

I have an American Classic Deluxe 1911 - it's a great gun. They are imported by the same company that handles Bersas, but they are built by two different manufacturers - they have a lifetime warranty, if ya need it. Under $500, blued.

My RIA FS Tac came out to $491. That was buying from Buds not getting the cash discount (payed with debit card), and included the $20 fee from my FFL. The gun itself hasn't given me any issues, only the single ACT mag has given me some nose diving problems. Plan on ordering a Wilson Combat 47 and Check-mate Hybrid this week.

Last month I bought a RIA cs from a local dealer here in S. FL. Total cost was $399 out the door. On the internet they were $369 + shipping + transfer. I got the better deal. If you are in S. FL let me know and I will tell you my dealers name. He also has great buys on ammo.

just so you understand all the brand new 1911's in your 500 or less price range are foreign made. For around 600 witht he help of someone knowledgeable on 1911's you should be able to find a good used Colt. I have bought 10 or so Colt 1911 series guns over the years up to as recently as last year - not spending over 600 bucks on any of them.

No doubt, but you don't need to go American to get a solid 1911.

I know it may a little higher than his $500 budget, but what about a Spartan? I realised that the OP specified GI, but IMO for the few extra dollars the extra features are worthwhile.

Here ya go... Best price I have found for the RIA Tactical... When I bought mine it was $450 shipped...

http://www.centerfiresystems.com/AC-RI1911TACA.aspx

Or you can get this, and it is about $30.00 cheaper than on Buds... Plus you don't have to wait a week or more for them to "process your order" like you do with buds... I bought a LCP from Buds, and it will be the last gun I ever purchase from them...

I have an american classic II that I got for $500 OTD. It isn't a GI model, but it is a very soli gun for the money. The slide to vrame fit is tight with no rattles, the barrel locks up tight and the finish is very good. I have 320 rounds through it andthe only hang up has been a 185gr golden saber that got hung up on the feed ramp. That was after the gun had 200 rounds through it in on session, so it was a bit dirty. I don't have much experience with 1911s but I can certainly say that you get a lot of gun for the money.

I like the American Classic/Firestorm.

They're built by Metro in the Philippines.
