LB TRS

or

DW Valor with the cool black finish?

Which one and why?

DW Valor cause I can't stand Baer's aesthetics.

There's a sale on Jetguns.com for a black Valor. $400 off market value.

Both are great guns. Me, I'd prefer the TRS because I love the way Baer builds a 1911.

R U kidding. There is no contest, Les Baer TRS is a much better quality and much better shooter. And it is about the same price. Lets go over this one more time. Les Baer TRS ( semi-custom ) built rock solid and a lifetime warranty. Dan Wesson Valor ( production ) same price as a :dunno:les baer and no where near as good in quality or function.

I started pretty much the same thread a couple months ago. When I started the thread I was pretty much set on the Valor. Ultimately I wound up going with a Baer Custom Carry, Mainly because I like how Les Baers serrations have a more classic look that Dan Wessons. The carbon steel frame and better checkering was also a little plus.

That said, I don't think I would be at all disappointed if I had gone with the Valor. Cheaper, better sights, and the quality difference IMO, isn't anywhere near as big as people make them out to be.

Both are great guns, go with the one you like better, because they are both great shooters.

Get whichever speaks to you, either will be more than up to doing anything you want.
A TRS is as "off the shelf" as a Valor. Sure, you can order no FCS or a naked slide from Baer, so hurrah ! it's a "custom".
I own a LB custom carry and it's very nice. But there's not one single aspect or detail where it handily spanks a Valor, other than cachet and, possibly, resale value. The quality of components used by DW is at least as good as any used on the TRS and any difference in fitting and accuracy will be marginal if there's any at all.

I don't take any huge exception to your positions in this post. Handily spanks? Not at this level of pistol. However there most definitely is a finer degree of hand fitting present in a Baer IMHO. I see the Valor as being more along the lines of a Brown in build philosophy (not a bad thing mind you). Very good fitting/tolerances, but not as tight as LB builds 'em, which for some is too tight. Me, I tend to go by the notion that they ain't getting any tighter with use.

asiparks
03-14-2011, 10:54
there's tight and there's "tight"

my RRA elite has a 1 1/2" guarantee and my Pro is non too shabby, accuracy wise, either. Both of them rack smoothly and cleanly without any undue exertion. My Baer takes a lot more effort to break out of battery for zero appreciable gain in anything other than improved wrist strength.

I have Browns, NH's, Valtro and guns by Heinie and Rodgers. Yet, amongst builders, Baer seem alone in his philosophy of making things that tight.
So I'm not sure that tightness is an objective qualifier of one brand being better than another.

I really like my Baer a lot BTW, but I'm also a pragmatist. I shoot all my 1911's but there's usually 2 or so , including my EDC that I'll put 7 or 8 K rounds through a year and maybe shoot a match or two with. My 06 CBOB had over 17K rounds through it over 3 years without a bobble before I retired it from rotation. I would be confident that a Valor or Baer could do that no problem.

Baer .....
