I have a Remington 870 with an 18.5" barrel - it has a factory +2 mag extension - that brings the end of the mag tube about even with the end of the barrel.

So I will say it is about 18.5 inches and gives me a 6 round mag capacity.

The Mossberg has me confused.

http://www.mossberg.com/products/default.asp?id=32&display=specs

A model listed as 930 SPECIAL PURPOSE - HOME SECURITY 85320 shows capacity of 5 rounds - which must be 4+1 - no mag extension

Model TACTICAL 8536 and 85370 shows an 18.5 inch barrel and a capacity of 8 rounds - which is 7+1, must have a +3 mag extension.

But BOTH models (85360 and 85370) show the mag tube extension just about even (little bit shorter) with the barrel.

HOW CAN THIS BE?

The Choate web site says -- 7 shot (6+1) which must be a +2 extension fits 18 inch barrels , 8 shot (7+1) which must be +3 extension fits the 20.5 inch barrel, 9 (8+1) shot fits 22.5 inch barrel, 10 (9+1) shot fits 26.5 inch barrel.

So how can the 930 SPX model 85370 with an 18.5 inch barrel fit 7+1?

Edited because I can't read!:embarassed:

Are you reading something wrong? The page you linked says the 85360 is 7+1 and the 85370 is 8, so they both hold 8 (7+1).

FWIW, don't go by the Choate website. My 18.5" Mossy 590A1 has a Choate mag extension. Choate calls it a +1, even though it looks long enough to be a +2. If you use the included orange plastic follower from Choate it is a +1, but if you use the Mossy follower it easily fits +2.

That's the answer from what I have read online. I think shotgunworld.com has covered it a few times.
