Just curious...I've been doing a lot of research on the newer Colt 1911 pistols, specifically their new Series70 offerings. I've seen everything ranging from new Colts are complete trash to they're the best thing since sliced bread. I figure the truth is somewhere in between and they are probably decent for the money, but I might be incorrect.

So, what's the general consensus on the newest manufactured Colts? Is the QC there for a $900-$1000 piece, i.e. paying for name only, or are they indeed worth the asking price? I've never owned any 1911, and really only like the basic GI or Mil-Spec look...no beaver-tails, no tacti-kewl look, or other features. It seems it's pretty hard to find a basic 1911 with a great reputation. I know there are offerings from Springfield (GI/MS), Remington, RIA, but that's about it. Is a Colt really worth more than a standard RIA or Remington or Springer? I really like the Series70 Colt's, but not much is said about them.

Thanks!

I just picked up a new Colt Commander. So far it has been reliable. I did notice it was made looser than most 1911s I have held. Which is fine as long as it is reliable.

I purchased two Colt's last year. Both were new production guns - SS Rail Gun and O1991. Both are good quality and both are reliable so far. I'd say go for it.

Solid guns with good quality parts.

Not as good as 40-50 years ago, but better than the more recent past.

I've wanted a Gold Cup since I was a boy. But in the 80's they suffered from a spotty reputation for QC. Most people I talk to or read about say the quality of todays gun is better then ever. Had a chance to shoot a Gold Cup not long ago. I'd buy one.

They are currently the best they've ever put out from what I've seen. Many known gunsmiths seem to feel the same way.

Thanks guys, they sure are good lookers and it's good to hear of your positive experiences. I have heard Colt's newest production had improved, but wasn't sure to what extent. Sounds like they are solid and I really would like to find a S70!

Thanks! :)

You tell me. This is from my Black cerakoat Rail Gun. First hole is 5 shots. I drifted the sight and the second hole is three shots.

I like colt pistols and own several. I have no issues with springfield either. My biggest colt problem is finding them to purchase. I want three colt pistols and have found zero available.

Keep looking. I am starting to see new Colts pop up at gunstores. Gander Mountain even had a new one when I was there last.
