I decided to shift my deposit from the full rail Springfield TRP Operator 1911 to another Beretta compact 92FS...

Everyone here knows I am a 92 fanatic. I have 6 different variants prior to today... And, I have been thinking about it the past couple of days while this second 92FS compact was inbound to my local shop...

I already have a 1911 Springfield Custom Shop 9mm Full Rail Operator (which is not a standard production Springfield, but essentially like a 9mm Professional with a full rail). I had been wanting the TRP version in 45 ACP - but I've been having second thoughts...

It (the operator) sorta popped up outta no where after 2 years of looking, and it is a fairly expensive gun. After I pay for new sights and a trigger job, it was gonna be pushing $2k with the shipping price to send the gun off... I had been comparing all that to a chance at another Compact 92FS, which haven't been imported in over 10 years....

As the 92 platform is my all time fav, and the most comfortable gun in my hands... I shifted the money and got the Beretta.... Luckily, the shop let me do it... Also, I haven't been as "into" 1911s lately, because of my Beretta interests...

So, now I have 2 Beretta 92 compacts, and 7 different 92s total... Unless something else unforseen pops up (some other strange or new variant), this is probably the last 92 I'll get... I'm not a fan of the Inox models - I only like Berettas in black for some strange reason...

Here is a quick picture. When I get a chance, I'll take a group photo on my red background :)

A very small batch has come into the USA for now. Buds was the only ones to have them, but now they are popping up here and there...

Word is that they MIGHT be part of an order a foreign military ordered, and then cancelled. Or, maybe Beretta is bringing them back.

Several people, including my local dealer, contacted Beretta directly in the past few weeks - multiple people in Beretta claims that they don't exist or no nothing about it... Nothing said at Shot Show either... so, if you find one, better get it now...

They may become regular stock - but for now, that doesn't seem likely...

It's like buying watches. You should purchase what makes you smile.

Anything less will result in regret.

Enjoy your Berettas!

I don't know if I have any real gun selling regrets, but if I had to pick one, it would likely be my 92 Custom Carry, which is a variant of the 92C.

My M9 (USA made) was $586.29, so hopefully no more than that?

I am hoping that enough decent folks show up at the state capitol this Wednesday for the public hearing on the bill. Then it gets defeated before it makes it out of the committee.

If this abomination passes it will be horrific. Hell if I lived elsewhere and had to move and had a choice between a free state and CT I would stay far away from here.

Yea, you've mentioned that before...

Actually, I'd love to have a Billenium - and have been tempted a few times, as I prefer the standard grip to the Vertec grip (I owned a Vertec when they first came out years ago)...

BuT I am at the point now where I only buy guns that I can put rubber grips on... Even though discontinued, it is still easy to find Hogue grip panels for the 92 compact. I have 2 sets in bound now...

My next gun will be a 45 Cougar. Rubber grips for Cougars were discontinued years ago - and are very hard to find... The 45 cal cougar being the hardest... I tracked down a NIB set a couple of months back...

I'm passing on the 45 cal Baby Eagle (a gun I'd like to get), as there are no rubber grips for them..

I sold my Beretta 90-Two recently, because I hated the polymer grip and no alternative I tried worked well...

Unfortunately, none of the frame mounted safety Beretta 92s (Stock, Billenium and Steel, to name a few) have aftermarket grips for them... If not for this issue, I would have bought a NIB Billenium over a year ago... (the prices have really gone up lately on them too)

Well, thanks a lot OP!

I have another gun I don't need coming.

Question... regarding the full size M9/92FS, is the hammer, hammer spring, guide rod, and recoil spring compatible with the compact by any chance? I had swapped out all those parts on the M9 and would like to do the same for the compact. The stock DA on the M9 was ridiculous, so replaced it with the lighter 'D' hammer spring.

Yes, everything is the same inside. I just finished putting D springs in both of them - as I was waiting for some USA lanyard pins to come in - to replace the roll pins that they seem to put in all the Italian made models...

The hammer is the same, and the D spring works.

The lanyard cap is shorter inside - that's how they are able to keep everything else the same.

I like to put Beretta Vertec grips on the standard 92 frame. They are thinner and give a much more slender feel.

I just HATE the vertec grip. I have small hands, and thought I would prefer it. But, I like the regular style frame with Hogue grip panels (the wrap arounds make the grip too fat, but the panels are just perfect).

As you can see, the grip panels are straight, leaving the "mainspring housing" exposed. While arguably not as aesthetically pleasing as the "proper grips", it is not unlike the configuration of a 1911 with an arched mainspring housing, whereas the grips are also straight. :dunno:
