Delta Elite is hard to beat. But, I'd prefer a Wilson Tactical Elite over it. The Gold Cup Match Delta Elite was an awesome 10mm gun, especially for the money.

I would say the Colt. However, I would select the STI Perfect ten over it as Quack has mentioned.

I gotta vote DW. I know i'll likelly get flamed for saying this, but the colts I've seen lately have been even less fitted than they normally are. Sloppy grip safety, my friend's mim frame safety just broke off and as a whole I'm a little underwhelmed.

I don't buy 10mm 1911s, but I'd take the Colt out of those two.

Colt if you want a collector. DW if you want a shooter. Then again the DW 10's are getting hard to find and commanding high prices.

I thought I might jump on to this thread because some of the feedback seemed like it might help with my decision.

I am considering an STI Perfect 10 or a customized Colt Delta Elite (by a well known top smith). The gun would primarily be used as hog hunting gun and pull range and nightstand duty.

Any thoughts?

I want a STI Perfect Ten, but it wont happen this year. The only thing that makes me a bit leery is that 2011's seem to be more picky at times then their single stack predecessors. I believe even the one Uncle Ted ran on Don's Wilson vs. STI thread a while back had a failure 4 rounds in. Not something you want to have happen while hog hunting. So I guess given the two choices you provided, I would probably lean towards the Delta - depending on who the smith was, how close it was to what my specs would have been, and price. If we are talking 25-2700, then I would also have to consider just ordering a Wilson.

I owned an EAA 10mm once, one of the biggest POS I've ever owned.

Yeah I know a bit tacky, but was my first 10mm in the standard, then I got a match and I really like it. Shoots accurate, and I have not had any problems with mine. When I went to join GT it was to talk 10mm with other 10mm enthusaists, so it seemed like a reasonable user name....:whistling:

Talking abou the EAA is like talking about the Taurus 1911, some love them, some don't have enough bad things to say about them......

Now thats funny. When I joined I was die hard 10MM hence the 20. Now I think its been to the range 2-3x in the past year and that was to either shoot .40 or .357 in the conversion barrels or to shoot .22 with the AA conversion to a newbie. :embarassed:

I still am big into 10mm, but I shoot my 29 more then all of my other 10mm. I also reload, so the 10mm is great, probably the most versatile caliber if you reload IMHO

I just purchased two new colt deltas last week. They are well fitted in my inspection. The trigger is not great. But no shake or rattle in my deltas.

For those who shoot Deltas, what are your shooting impressions in terms of recoil management? I recognize that there is a huge range of loads for the 10mm; however, by the time you load the 10 to reach some of its potential, how does it handle in the traditional Government size 1911?

I am starting to lean towards a Nighthawk Heinie 10mm-LS (if I can find one), or a Wilson-once again if I can track one down in the next six weeks. If anyone has any leads-let me know.
