Who even makes em anymore? Is there a good one out there for ~$800? thinking about CCW. Reliabilty is THE most important factor. Thanks guys.

The DW CCO is NOT a true officer sized gun. I'm not sure about the STI. A true Officer sized gun has a 3.5" barrel. The CCO is a 4.3".

That being said, I think the "compact" sized (4-4.3" barrel with a officer sized frame) is an excellent choice. The longer barrel provides higher reliability and velocity and doesn't take away from concealability especially if you are carrying IWB. Kimber makes their Compact and Pro models with 4" barrels. Likewise Baer but those are out of your price range.

I think Rock Island may have an officer sized gun.

I have an old ('97) Kimber Compact that has been a good gun and carries easily.

I have been thinking the same thing myself. Who else makes a sub $1000 CCO? I have been eying the Sig Carry and C3 really hard. With the checkering and night sights they look like a very good value at ~$850 street priced with the negative being holsters are harder to come by. What are the other options?

Both of those mentioned falls in the CCO (commanderish slide on an officer frame) category of the 1911 size.

Les Baer...good luck with trying to slingshot his Commanche frame guns... :faint: And that debate can be a whole other topic for discussion.

OP,
Springfield's Ultra Compact is a true officer size that's around $800-$850. Lifetime warranty if you ever have any issue. Been happy with mine. Kimber has a few options, but 1-year warranty.

If I recall correctly, the Sig C3 "night sights" are photoluminescent paint, not tritium.

My Colt Defender has been 100% reliable with Wilson mags.
Also my STI Escort is 100% reliable, both guns with more that 3K round each!

If reliability is a must for an officer framed gun then be prepared to spend more than $800 or troubleshoot. You can find "officer" sized guns that run all day, others that won't cycle air. My suggestion is to go with a CCO style 1911, the carry difference between the two is extremely small. However if you must have a 3" gun, then look at EMPs. They are designed from the ground up, and the .40 or 9mm performs better in short barreled designs in reliability and performance.

Mine dated 1/2011 has tritium.

Sorry, I was n a hurry when I posted. I would actually prefer the ~4.25" barrel. Seems like the reliability is better with those. Right?

Love my DW CCO, and it has been 100% from the factory with NO ISSUES what so ever.
