Both of my new Coonan .357 semi auto's arrived at my local FFL today and I was johnny-on-the-spot to bring them home. I purchased them through our own David Cote of DRC Firearms - A true gentleman and a true joy to deal with! More on Dave when my review gets written, but I had to thank him here first for all of his tireless help with these! :wavey:
Here's what arrived:

I will be writing two reviews, the first based on just visual and handling, the second on how these babies shoot. I have the range reserved for me and some buds on monday, so hopefully the weather cooperates and we git 'er done!
One of these will stay stock, and the other will be going to Dave Severns for some customization including a full Hard Hat blackening, and other things.
I'm excited about these things and cant' wait to rip into 'em! From the five minutes of fondling I've had time to do, they seem VERY well built!
Review and close ups/details to follow in a couple of days!

What do you think is going to happen when the range safety officer (me) suddenly cuts loose with a torrent of two handed lead spraying from these babies? I may not be invited back, but I don't think I'll be able to resist! :whistling::rofl:

Like a moron I passed on a cheap NIB one back in the mid 90s as I was not into 1911s back then.

That wouldn't be very safe range etiquette if you are dual wielding doing the tactical fitness turn, elbow high "CLEAR" maneuver to reholster.

Hokie, you nailed it. That's what I was talking about. It'll be too cold here for me to wear the tank top, but I may have the Miami Vice scruff and sunglasses. :tongueout:

The magazines for the new Classics are $60 direct from Coonan Firearms, so I imagine they will be a few $$ cheaper through a dealer, although I don't do that for a fact at all.

Whats the trigger reach like on those?
Remarkably similar to a 1911, surprisingly. It's hard to judge as the trigger itself is so wide, it's the overwhelming thing I notice in holding it. It's definitely doesn't require any "regripping" from my normal hold to reach the trigger.
They point quite well also, which was another surprise. I thought it would be left or right, but it seems to be just fine. Of course, this will come out in the range session.

I am really interested to read the range report. I was pretty impressed with my handling of them. I had this incredible urge to load a mag with some hotrod .357 loads and Sarge actually told me I could.....I just couldn't bring myself to do it on a new customer pistol. I really appreciated the offer, though.....I will say one thing for sure on these pistols...they are hefty as hell. Nothing cheap feeling about them whatsoever. Like I said, I am really interested in the range report!

Who among us can actually "justify" having more than that first pistol anyway? :dunno:
As for the pricing - out of respect for the dealers I'll just say this: MSRP is shown on the Coonan website, and a dealer can save you a few $$$ below that. The site shows the basic pistols and then you can add the few options available right now which is pretty much limited to the sights you want, how many magazines, and the grips (either wood or alumagrips).

Looking forward to the Volpone report -
I don't know if I can get that look down for the shoot or not. It took Zoolander YEARS to perfect "The Magnum" before it was ready to unleash on the general public. Besides, I don't know if my lips can curl that way.

Congrats on the new iron!

I used my "old" Model B a couple of weeks ago at an INdoor USPSA match. I kept it a secret to all but the match master. To the untrained eye, it appeared I was just carrying a stainless .45acp in my holster. I was using some of my FULL-powered 125gr JHP's.

When the buzzer sounded for my first string of fire, there was a loud collective gasp as I squeezed off the first round. Everyone standing in the shooting bay thought my gun blew up. As I kept hammering through the coarse of fire with the unrelenting balls of fire, they finally caught on.

Now get out there and shoot. Coonans are made to be shot not collected.

I've uploaded a couple of videos of a buddy of mine shooting my B at my local indoor range. The rounds fired are MAX loaded 125gr JHP's.

The first string of seven during the two mag dumps you may notice the slide not locking back. This was due to a magazine follower issue with some fabricated mags.

More videos and pics are available at Coonan's Facebook page. They asked my permission to use them, I'm cool with it.

Try dumping seven rounds of full-powered .357 magnum this quickly with a revolver.

It's handy being 30 minutes away from Coonan Inc.

I just eBay'd all my Lacoste and I buying a ton of UnderArmour this weekend. I also have stopped shaving.........and started rubbing "flaxseed oil" on since it worked so well for Barry Bonds.

One can actually buy them at a local store.
