Has anyone used VV320. Currently my favorite IDPA load for the 40SW is 3.5 gr of tightgroup. Great shooting round but 3.5 gr of tightgroup doesn't take up much room in a 40 SW case. I would love to find something that shot as soft and accurately but used up a lot more of the case.

Only have used it in 9mm. Went back to using Tightgroup.

I *assume* you're using 180 grain bullets? I find 4.0 grains of N-320 rivals the soft shooting characteristics of the 3.5 grain TG load and is every bit as accurate.

I've used 320 in the past and it's a fine performer - but too darn expensive for the amount of rounds a competitive shooter goes through.

Try 3.8grns. WST w/180grn. bullet. Accurate, clean burning, low recoiling and it bulks up in a case OK. It won't over flow a case with a double charge but is easier to see then TG.

I use N320 for both .38 and .45, and N340 for 9mm. I love both powders. Super consistent and very clean burning. I shoot lead out of .38 and .45 (ACP), and FMJ for the 9mm.

I think I could get by with N340 for everything if necessary.

And yes, it is expensive, but worth it. I buy in bulk from Powder Valley.

Cheers!

as previously mentioned I also use 4.0gr w/180gr bullets. Nice shooting. I also use 5.8 gr of 340 w/180 gr bullets.

It is my favorite powder in 40.

Expensive though.

I have lots of N310 left over from my 45 ACP days, but thats a little fast for the 40.

Thanks all for the input. I just got back from the gun shop and they didn't have any. Looks like a good excuse to drive to the next town over.

Red Dot is very bulky and is a fast powder like Bullseye, TG etc.

I do not have a crono at the moment. anyone have an idea of the velocity this combo puts out?

It's a minor load pushing about 800, fps get up to 4.3-4.4 range and yo'll be in major territory.
