Stanley 3/16" Hex Nut Driver, 61-805, Black Handle

I've been trying to find the tool needed to replace the front sight on my Glock but they always want like $15 for it and I think that's way overpriced so I'm looking for alternatives.

Please let me know. I will appreciate it.

I'm not sure about the Stanley tool, but the precision 3/16" hex nut driver made by Wiha that GT member Nutt51 found is proven to work for Glock front sights (with the possible exceptions of a G17L, G24, G34 or G35). See the original GT thread Bargain front sight tool (http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1305107).

It's available at Amazon.com for $5.65 (plus $2.68 shipping)

http://www.amazon.com/Wiha-Driver-Precision-PicoFinish-Handle/dp/B001ID3APA/ref=sr_1_29?ie=UTF8&qid=1294965821&sr=8-29

Be careful with these hex nut drivers with larger handles. It's very easy to apply too much torque and strip the threads or twist off the hex head of the screw.

the 3/16 is the correct size most nut drivers are too large diameter to fit in the confines of the glock slide, I bought a tool specifically for them from brownells I think it was under 15 dollars. TT

i dont know if you have your night sights already, if you dont and happen to be interested in the xs big dots, they come with the tool to take the front sight off as well as a punch for the rear sights.

It's a little late in the day, but any hardware store--True Value, Ace, etc.--will have a nut driver (looks like a screw driver) that will work for you. Just be sure of the size you want. It will be well under $15.00, and you'll be in and out in minutes.

They'll also have a punch to knock out that OEM front sight. A nail driver would do it, and you'll use it again around the house throughout your life. It will cost a couple of bucks...

I've had to reinstall every front sight my gun shop has installed for me. I'm convinced that this is because their cleaning prep (including their fingers) is sloppy.

I've had complete success using both red and blue Loctites on the front sights.

My front sights stay put! Here's my method to install them:

Again, a key thing is to make sure all contact surfaces are clean and free of solvents, lubes and skin oils. Clean contact parts with alcohol and blast dry with canned air--including your finger tips.

Use a small drop of Loctite on all contact surfaces, and tighten 1/4 -1/2 turn past finger tight (adult strength).

Make sure the final adjustment is a tightening adjustment--sounds obvious, but people miss this.

Remove excess Loctite (there shouldn't be much) with Q-tips and a paper towel or cleaning patch.

Let set 24-hours, then have at it!

All my Glocks are well used, but seldom holstered... I've never had any front sight I've installed come loose.

Good luck! :wavey:
