Fantastic pis......

Amigo. I sure hope this ain't y'alls local swimmin hole ! :wow:

Ours is a big wide river in a canyon bottom and reeeeeeaaallll deep. But never see a snake.

Untill ya get back on the bank and the rattlers are waiting. They don't worry me really, but these southern cotton mouth and copper heads and whatever's y'all got... No thanks. And the gators. I'll stay with the mt lions out here.

I've told ya before, whenever I go to Tennessee to visit realitives they always try and get me in some swampy 'bottoms' they call 'em, and it is filled with all the stuff you just showed.... I carry a 44mag and go on with them so I don't look like a wuss. Man I guess if you grow up with it, like I have the rattlers here, it ain't that big a deal.

I'll stick with this ! Ha..

Thanks man! I definitely wouldn't swim in any of those places haha! I keep a 410 tamer in the truck and my air weight smith has a couple rounds of shotshells in it when i'm working. I have killed 5 cottonmouths in the past week and a half, they are definitely out moving around!

Here are a couple pictures from today of a small gator. He let me get about 10 feet from him and would go down then pop right back up. He had no fear of me whatsoever. Being so small, he was probably just curious as to what I was doing!

One reason I don't miss living in TX! I hated cottonmouths, did not mind the copperheads as much. What is that second snake? Does not really have the triangle head of a viper. Just a type of water snake? Pics of the gators are cool!

That's a common brown snake in my neck of the woods. Most city slickers confuse it with a water mocassins, since we have these snakes hanging around water ways.Very harmless.

Sorry for the delayed reply, been busy with work!

In short, you would need teeth marks on you to claim self defense. To most people a gator "threatens" them by swimming across a lake 400 yards from them when in reality it is the people's fear that is causing the "threat". Gators are curious animals, really neat to watch the way they try to figure out what you are, especially in places they don't see humans often.

I had one gator scare me that I can remember. I was at my uncles farm spraying some aquatic weeds for him out of one of our small jon boats. It was about a 1436 jon boat with a 5.5 go devil mud motor on it. The gator was every bit as long as that boat was and very curious as to what I was and why I was in his home. He followed the boat while I sprayed and finally got a little too close for my comfort. I was carrying, like I always am and I shot right next to the boat (he was about 15-20 feet away) to cause a commotion/splash. He slinked under the water and went on down the waterway. I was not worried about him "attacking" me or the boat per say, but I did not want to run over him and cause him to freak out and capsize the small, very tipsy boat I was in. I think they are awesome animals that are to be respected. Most folks are freaked out by them, because they are by all accounts killing machines that are so efficient at what they do they have evolved very little. Down here though, you can usually avoid getting in that type of situation. I have gotten very, very close to some while taking pictures but I always had an escape route planned if I needed to tuck tail and get out of there.

I would venture to guess you are more likely to get popped by a cottonmouth than attacked by a gator.

I am on the water a lot, a lot more than most folks so it's just another day and another gator to me when I see them. I also very much enjoy hunting them during our Alligator Season the state has been doing the past few years. Talk about a rush! We have hooked up on some but been unsuccessful in harvesting them. I have some new tricks up my sleeve along with new equipment and most importantly new private lands to hunt this year. Between my friends and I, we should get several harvest tags for private land that is not near as pressured as the public lands we have hunted in the past. Hopefully I will post some pictures this summer if we are successful!

Down here your more likely to get harmed by a mosquito or horse fly than a gator. In fact gators, are probably more afraid of us two legged predators ;)

here's a snake of mine that I called in while Turkey hunting last week I found this racer 10ft away from my blind. So I guess my calls work ;)

Noway. You ned to come down here and call rattlers on the ranch, and enter them at the Sweet Water, Tx Rattle snake roundup. It's only a stone throw from the ranch. We'll even put you in a real snakey area (That's everywhere) and you can call and shoot all the buzz tails you want. haha.

Called up a snake eh ? That's one call I'd get rid of amigo !

Just messin with ya..

I might take you up on that offer, but 1st you need to get rid of these

http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab256/yrag5951/GT%20stuff/ATT6.jpg

We have a lot of snakes, but most are not dangerous enough to kill you. I rather get bitten by a watermocassin, racer, pygmy rattler or indigo than a western/eastern diamondback.

if I ever start to see pairs of diamondbacks like that in my swamps, I might just give up hunting :wow:

Be safe

HAHAHA !

Man, we got more rattlers on this ranch, than any other ranch in the county, we are told by the snake hunters... I can't be out hardly without seeing them.

Can't have the Mesquite smoked cooked supper with the rattlers amigo ! haha

Here are a few more pics for ya from the ranch here.

Here just ONE, of hundreds of dens on the ranch:

http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab256/yrag5951/GT%20stuff/IMG_0052.jpg

This is a real small 5' 3" one I killed coming across the cattle guard goin to the house one evening.

http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab256/yrag5951/GT%20stuff/IMG_00204444.jpg

Here is a bucket full of them, after we killed, skinned, gutted, cleaned them. They are ready to be cut into 4" lengths, and battered and deep fried, or put on the mesquite smoker. UUMMM with beans and roastin ears and peppers ! Come on Man ! hahha.

http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab256/yrag5951/GT%20stuff/IMG_00702.jpg

I grew up like this, so it does not bother me. I get a rush at times when I go out workin in the brush and one snaps at ya, or rubs against your boot goin in a hole in the cactus rises. Late night trips to the barn or corral can be fun as well ! But we have plenty of bobcats and mountain lion and fox, and hawks to eat the rattlers.... Just never see the rattlers ever thin out.. haha

Be safe

Hey it's supper time ! Dang, chili dogs or pizza tonite !

You gotta be kidding me CanyonMan. We have rattlers around here, but if I EVER saw something like that, I believe I'd finally find a use for that pound of Blue Dot sitting in the garage. :whistling:

Best way to use your Blue Dot on "this den," is stick a fuse in it , light it and give it a toss !

This is only a very small sample of the snakes on the ranch.

Plenty of meat for everyone !
