All in the same price range. I am wanting to keep the cost in that 300 dollar price range. The nikon does come with a free mount, which is nice, but I have a brand new burris pepr sitting in my gun closet so it's not the deciding factor.

Is there a clear cut winner here? Would especially like to hear if anyone has used both the Burris and Nikon as those two are my favorites at the moment.

I have a Nikon Monarch African 1-4 with a German #4 reticle in a PEPR mount and I really like it. I can't directly comment on the others, but if the Nikon AR scope is as good as the Monarch African, I believe you will be pleased with the optics.

That's the 1-4 I'd put on an ar, I have no interest is special reticles.

So after initially thinking i was going to go with the Burris TAC30, I am pretty sure i have decided to go with the Nikon m223. ONLY reason i am deciding against the Burris is that i don't like the 2.4 moa dot for the center of the reticle. I already have an AR with an Aimpoint for a close quarters shooter. And although i am wanting this gun to be able to do that job as well, i want something that can punch some small groups out at a distance. I am going to go with the BDC 600 reticle.

So now that that is decided, my next question is magnification. I thought I would only be going with a 1-4, but they also have a 2-8 option. Has anyone tried shooting up close with a 2X scope? I am aware that it isn't going to be as easy to use as a 1.0-1.2X scope is. Has anyone tried it?

Rob, It sounds like to me you have answered your own question. You already have a CQ rig, I would go with the Nikon M-223 2-8 with Rapid Action Turret. Once you get zero you can dial out to 600 yards. Compact scope which it sounds like you prefer too. Of course you'll need to use .223 ammo rated a 3240 fps as well. My older eyes like the 3-12 Rapid Action Turret especailly for reaching way out there, but the 2-8 can punch tight groups on paper close in as well as ring a gong at 600 yards. I hope this helps?

I'm sure that it is a great at distance, i am wondering if anyone can give me any insight on how capable it is at shooting in the 5-15 yard range. Is it even feasible? I have done a lot of shooting with a 1X optic. I am hoping i can do both with one optic.

Could you explain the difference between the regular turrets and the Rapid Action Turrets... Maybe post a picture of them.

Is there a down side to the Rapid Action Turrets? Are the less accurate for under 100 yard targets?
