I've noticed a small amount of what resembles tiny corn cob flakes in each drop of powder (8.7gr). Is this normal, cellulose or something?

I don't know what it is, but 800X meters like cornflakes in either my Dillon or RCBS Duo. The performance gain, if any, isn't worth using it IMO. I found better accuracy using Longshot & it meters like fine sand, maybe give up 25fps to the top end 800X loads.

Agreed fred: I had this # of 800X and didn't want to waste it. Guess I'll try and call them tomorrow about the corn cob flakes. I've been using Power Pistol and LS.

800-X is good because of the lower chamber pressure. It is a bear to get consistant throws.
I have not seen anything like corn cob flakes in the 800-X powder I have.

I've never been able to get 800x to throw a consistent charge.

What few loads I've been able to get from 800x in 12ga and 45 acp have been good though.

I have used a metric buttload of 700x. It meters like cornflakes as well. I have also noticed little yellow specks, like yellow grits in it. While 700x provided amazing accuracy, as many claim 800x does also, it meters like absolute garbage just like 800x. I found AA#2 for my target loads, AA#5 or #7 for a little more.

I called IMR today and confirmed that this is perfectly normal. The color may even be different than my "corn cob" specs. It was explained that it is due to blending that is done due to various variables. Nothing to be concerned about.
