I picked up a can of Longshot and am finally getting around to working up some loads. I intend to load 180 & 200 grain XTPs and maybe some 200 grain hardcast bullets.

For those of you that have worked with this powder, is there any reason that it would prefer to run with a mag primer? Of course I could do workups for both, but I thought I would get you input.

Thanks for your input.

I got better performace using CCI350's, than I did with CCI300's or WLP's. I haven't run into pressure issues, even at over max charges. I have used all 3 with Longshot for 10mm (180gr & 200gr) and I use CCI350's exclusively for 9x25 Dillon (90gr & 115gr).

Thanks Meathead. By better performance, do you mean velocities, SDs on velocity, accuracy?

I got better velocity with Mag Primers, while keeping low ES/SD's. The CCI300's gave the tightest ES's (sub 10fps ES w/200gr WFNGC's), but the Mag's weren't far behind. The accuracy was about the same, so I choose to load with mag primers. I have since chosen 800X for my 200gr WFNGC loads, but Longshot is my go-to powder for all other bullet weights.

Thanks. Good stuff. I haven't been able to get 800-X to run as well as some have reported. For the 200 gr WFNGC hardcast I have settled on A9 as running better with benign pressure symptoms. I am overall satisfied with that load but I am really interested in what LS can do with the XTPs and maybe, now that I am thinking about it, some 180 gr Gold Dots.
