As I was browsing the STI website the other night I noticed they sell a .22lr conversion. Well since I just bought a Ranger II (and love it) I figure why not buy another STI product. So after a call to Brazos I come to find that this little gem is going to run me $463. This leads me to seek a little advice from the brain trust here on the forums. Is this conversion worth the money or should I just stick with my Buckmarks, and Mark II's? Are there any other conversions worth looking at? Specifically units that have a last round hold open. As always any input would be greatly appreciated.
I like my Kimber conversions. The 22/45 and Buckmarks come close but they are still not exactly like a 1911, so........
The Advantage Arms has a last-shot hold open, IIRC.

I have a Kimber kit and it's awesome, the only thing I don't like is it don't lock back after the last shot:crying:

Marvel Unit 1. My son loves it.
Does STI have their own conversion now, or is it still the rebranded Marvel/AA target unit like mine? I had thought STI discontinued the AA unit a while back due to availability problems or something.
AA claims 1" groups at 50 yards with match ammo for the target models. I haven't tried it at that range but mine is quite accurate out to 25 yards. The last round hold open in nice.
Here's mine on a Ranger II frame.

I'm fairly certain its a re-branded unit that STI puts a roll mark on http://www.stiguns.com/guns/22TopEnd/22TopEnd.php it looks very similar to the Tactical Solutions conversion http://www.tacticalsol.com/products/22-lr-conversions?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=27&category_id=10

Get a GSG 1911 .22 and shoot the hell out of it. Don't understand sacrificing a 1911 when you get the same thing in the GSG.
...Don't understand s'...

Thanks, hadn't seen that page yet. That would certainly explain the price increase over the older unit.

Not much of a sacrifice, you can swap the slides back and forth in about 60 seconds, with the added benefit of practicing with the exact same trigger, etc as you use with a .45 slide on top.

True but a whole new gun is fun and the GSG is is so much fun to shoot. I will shoot one or more of my 1911s then pick up the GSG and start shooting. See your point though. Either way it's cheaper shooting.

I shoot my dedicated Kimber/Fusion conversion more than 10:1 over the .45acp versions.
FUN!
