found a god deal on a match target m4 upper by colt. barrel is stamped 5.56. seems to be somewhat comparable to the 6920 colt makes.

anyone have any experience with it?
is it chrome lined, and should it matter?

this is going on a spikes tactical lower im building. i want it to be a good range gun/home defense.

thanks for the input.

Is it one of the ones that has a 'compensator' instead of a real flash hider and no bayonet lug?

i cant tell. i know the barrel is marked 5.56. whats the difference?

The 'Match Target M4' model is Colt's ban-type version( non-collapsing stock, no bayonet lug under the gas block/sight post, etc.) and would not be desirable for most people that live in states without restrictions on such features.

im only getting the upper, so the collapasing stock is not an issue. as is the fixed sight post/gas block.

i guess im more concerned about the chrome lining. i assume all colts are chrome lined.

is thus true?

Sorry I did not answer your orignal question; I am 99% sure that You are correct and the barrel is chrome lined.

last question, since the muzzle is pinned, can it be removed? i havent found any info on the upper saying it has a treaded barrel. anyone know?

I was told that since it is pinned that it can be replaced with something different. I have a Colt M4 Match Target and love it. But I've replaced so much stuff on it that it's no where near it's original state. One of the first things I replaced was the non-collapsible stock. The muzzle brake is the next thing to go.

The compensator is pinned in place and can easily be removed. The barrel is NOT threaded.
You will have to get the barrel threaded. I highly recommend ADCO for the barrel work. They did an outstanding job on mine.

thanks again guys! i looking at adding a rail to it, and since some require removal of muzzle break, i wanted to know if i could easily remove it.

another question,

is the bcg a m16 bcg? ive read somewhere the later run colt m4 match targets came with m16 bcg. how can i tell the difference?

My Colt MT6400C, and my MT6700 both came with full auto bcg's. Both rifles are mid 2009 manufacture.

This is a good thread on another site on BCG's.

thanks jkirk. i'll have to figure out the manufacture date once i get it. ike i said, im only picking up the complete upper.
will there be any identifying marks on the upper that will give me some insight on the date?

thanks again all!

Underneath the handgaurds, on the bottom of the barrel, near the fsb will be a date. My Mt6400 was dated 05/09.

Picked up the upper today. Barrel is stamped 05 03. Looks nice and clean, but I guess no m16 bcg? Kinda bummed if its not a m16 bcg. I'm gonna call colt and ask.

Called colt. The bcg is a standard bcg which is a m16 bcg. But the barrel isn't chrome lined. All according to colt mfg costumer service.

Are chromelined barrels worth it?

My understanding is that chrome lining resists corrosion but some say it actually takes away from accuracy.
The way I look at it is that most reputable AR brands at least have chrome lining as an option and it seems to be a standard feature on serious fighting rifles.
I know that on brands that offer chrome lining as an option it costs about an extra $50, so IMO you may not need it but it is worth it.

The barrel stamping should tell you if it is chrome lined or not.
Mine reads C MP 1/7 5.56 (or something similar, I don't have it in front of me).
'C' indicates chrome lined.

The C is for Colt and MP indicates magnetic particle tested, similar to how Bushmaster barrels are marked B MP. Most ARs I have seen do not have any marks on the barrel that tell you whether they are hard chrome lined or not, except for a 9mm Colt I have that reads "chrome bore 9mm"

Took a look at my barrel. It has the C stamped on it.

I did not know that.
