Cool,.......I built a Dissy with BCM parts last year. Loved it, then I sold it. :dunno:

I still don't understand the point of these things.

I still don't understand the point of these things.

It's simple,

Short 16" barrel
Long as possible sight radius.

Yep, short barrel with rock solid reliable combat proven sights with the longest sight radius possible for a 16" barrel. I have always wanted one.

Plus in the old days it was kinda like the poor mans SBR lol.

You mean a fun upper that makes sense, and creates an excellent sight radius?

I see, but why not just use a longer gas system to eliminate the extra gas block? Dwell time perhaps?

Some do use a rifle length system, mine does but there have been reliability issues with them using the rifle length so they use mid length or carbine

Mid-length was pretty much designed for 16" guns weren't they?

16" barrels were originally designed for the carbine gas system. Over time the mid lenght
system came to be. Changed dwell time, less pressure buildup, overall smoother operation, easier on components.

Not my cup of tea. I use Aimpoints or scopes on my AR's and the irons are there for back up. No point for me to adding a relatively heavy FSB off the very end of the barrel for a minimal gain in site radius. I can see how this would be useful for an irons only setup.

Exactly!
